Critic Reviews

  • Dan Zak, Washington Post

Why couldn't Couples Retreat have been lighthearted and zany throughout, instead of trying to push across a message about picket-fence monogamy?

  • Trevor Johnston, Time Out

Expectations of farce are stymied by long stretches of mid-life navel gazing.

  • Keith Uhlich, Time Out New York

It's too easy to say that Peter Billingsley shot his eye out with this inept comic trifle, but...well, he shot his eye out.

  • Tom Long, Detroit News

This is one of those films, like last week's Whip It and so many others of late, that looks like it was a lot fun to make. It's just not all that much fun to watch.

  • Rick Groen, Globe and Mail

There are also scenes, the disjointed kind that wander off aimlessly in the vague hope of finding a movie, not to mention a laugh.

Funny rom com about four couples who go to a tropical island resort only to find themselves in couples therapy! Good cast.

Lethargic and lazy comedy. It's like the producers have just thrown big name 'funny people' at it to kid people that it's funny, instead of actually writing a funny script/character/story. Who wrote and produced it? Why the main stars Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn… More

No where as near as funny as I had hoped for considering the cast line up. A few funny moments but not enough, I ended up appreciating the beautiful scenery of Bora Bora about half way through, more than the jokes!
