This is one weird documentary, yet it is highly captivating. The story being presented has to be one of the, if not the most dysfunctional love stories of the past century. Crazy love only begins to describe this film....

the most disturbing thing to me is the light hearted tone of the film as it unravels the tale of two so obviously sick and desperately codependent individuals. definitely crazy; dunno about love

This documentary recounts the twisted tale of Burt Pugach, a successful New York lawyer who fell madly in love with 20 year-old Linda Riss in 1957. Linda initially loved the attention from the wealthy older man, but eventually tired of him and dumped him for someone closer to her...( read more) own age. Burt decided that if he couldn't have Linda no one would, and hired someone to throw acid in her face, partially blinding her and changing both their lives forever. Burt was convicted and spent 9 years behind bars for his part in the crime, but wrote letters to Linda from prison professing his undying love for her. When he was released from prison, they started seeing each other again, and eventually ended up getting married, once again proving the old adage 'truth is stranger than fiction'. It's certainly a bizarre and fascinating story, but the film itself doesn't generate much interest, even though it relies partly on recent interviews with Burt and Linda to tell the story. It just lacks a certain oomph that might raise it above the average.

Crime of passion is the most forgivable type of crime for me. So I don't see anything sick about this love story. This is like an endless love story like Romeo&Juliette, kind of romantic too.

A true testament to how crazy someone can become when they fall madly in love with somebody and the love is not received back.
