This is the most interesting story of the issue of immigration in Los Angeles, that great American melting pot. Classy and intelligent, this mostly avoids the next conveniences and didacticism of Crash. The performances are all good, too, from a stoic Harrison Ford down to...( read more) the sensational Summer Bishil. It is interesting that people are comparing this film to Crash, so I will do the same Crash was dull, boring and spent to much effort trying to combine the characters stories. This film spends less time combining the characters stories and focuses on a proper issue (illegal immig...( read more)ration). An interesting watch.

A Crash-type intertwining of different stories all concerning immigration somehow. Harrison Ford does so few movies these days that anything with him in it is automatically a perk-up to watch it, So, I was interested and it's not a bad movie. It could've been better, though. Clif...( read more)f Curtis - who looks like a middleeastern Gerard Butler - was awesome as an immigration officer who is eventually uncovered to be involved in a mured involving his sister, who is set to be deported back to Iran along with the rest of the family. Or Iraq. One or the other.

i'm not sure what exactly do i feel about this movie, i felt it was trying to be like Crash in interconnecting the stories of the characters. but i like how it showed us what people are willing to do just to be able to stay in the states hoping for a better life, and i found the ...( read more)story about the Muslim girl very true because the government is always suspicious about any person who's an arab that they even accused her for being a terrorist just by writing an essay of her thoughts.

this movie deals with a lot of good issues but i don't think it's that powerful (Crash was way better dealing with daily issues and it didn't take any sides! ).

Harrison Ford Has Been A Badass Since He Played Han Solo, And This Movie Is No Different. Wayne Kramer Delivers Another Fast Paced Movie That Makes You Think About All Sides Of The Story. Truly, The American Dream Indeed.

This movie I didn't even make it through. Why Harrison Ford starred in this is crazy. It was a slow moving story and a boring one at that. No real substance and who cares? A bad script filled with great actors.

I well constructed epic but it was a little too much for my taste. Too many mirror stories in the same movie. Or maybe it was just the fact that i watched it at 4 o'clock in the morning. Do not repeat this mistake!

Good plot but the story in itself was weak and there was a lot of graphic imagery and dialogue that was really unecessary. I'm a big Harrison Ford fan and this was a weaker movie for him.

Very similar to Babel and Crash which both was better. But maybe I can't understand the theme "The American dream", since I'm only Swedish living in Greece.....

Another movie I feel that has been overlooked, I thought it was good had a great cast and a good story to tell.

This is a real disappointment, not only as an urban crime thriller, but also because helmer Wayne Kramer fails to use the multi-strand narrative (which worked so brilliantly in Crash and Babel) to good effect, and to address the subject matter in enough depth. A huge eye opener. The plot line in Crossing Over reminds me of how the story in Crash and Babel are developed, which is a nice alternative to the typical one story development.

Every day thousands of people illegally cross our borders... only one thing stands in their way. America."

Crossing Over is a multi-character canvas about immigrants of different nationalities struggling to achieve legal status in Los Angeles...

    REVIEW

Crossing Over...( read more) consists of multiple story lines bound together by a common theme examined, sometimes with just a few characters straddling across the narrative threads to link them up explicitly. Writer-director Wayne Kramer examines the issues behind the illegal immigrant problem in USA who are either trying to lay low in avoiding the law, or trying their best to gain legal residency with each experiencing different challenges that lie ahead in their quest.

A mix of "Babel" and "Crash" in the culture clash study of immigration in the US with a decent ensemble with some nice work by Ford as an aging fed who tries to find the humanity in his soul-crushing work; Curtis as his partner who has a memorable speech in a convenience store hold-up; and especially Bishil as an opinionated student whose speech at school land her in hot water. Filmmaker Wayne Kramer walks an uneven balance of the political and social upheavals in this well-acted drama in this post-9/11 treatise on the melting pot of America.

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I recommend it.

Dealing with the many facets, myths and glories of being a U.S. citizen. Very solid performances from an impressive semi-ensemble cast. Plus, the Australian babe is hot ;)
  • July 21, 2009
A surprisingly good film that presents a look at the "other side"of the immigration issue. Ray Liotta is "sleazy" good and Harrison Ford looks a bit too old to still be working the cases.
