One of Johnny Depp's early films and very indicative of most of his movie choices throughout his career. A John Waters classic.

    THE MOVIE OUTLINE

"Allison is a "square" good girl who has decided she wants to be bad and falls hard for Cry-Baby Walker, a Greaser (or "Drape" in John Waters parlance). Spoofing Elvis movies and Juvenile Delinquency scare films of the '50s, this movie follows the adventures of Cry-Baby who, though he is sent to juvie, is determined to cross class (and taste) boundaries to get Allison back. "

    MY APPRAISAL

Poor boy meets rich girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy's friends don't approve. Girl falls for boy. Girl's friends and family don't approve. Take one part "Romeo and Juliet", one part "Grease", a little bit of the "Outsiders". Cry Baby is unique undoubtedly and a good time-killer. I said this million times in my previous reviews, that I hate musicals. It's not like I don't like music. I do adore music. I love music as much as I love movies. But blend of both turns out a nightmare to me. But thank goodness they have Johnny. He's the only reason I survived. I would imagine if they replaced Johnny with someone else, I would've rated this half a star.

Johnny Depp, looking GORGEOUS as ever. Looks even hotter with rebelious hair _disabled.
But in Cry Baby, I didn't find him 'working' professionally as an actor. It's not because he's an amateur, but in Cry Baby everyone were having fun together. Not to added how he melt every woman's heart as he sings and dance like a teenage rock star. It's surprising in a very good way that Johnny didn't find himself comfy playing as a teenage heart trob and he worked really hard to be what he'd become now, a first-rate qualified actor.

The sounds are really catchy and overall, Cry Baby is pretty much enjoyable and hilarious. Moreover to those musicals junkie, Cry Baby is not something you should miss.

Regrettably, I find some characters are dreadfully wacky yet they scared the hell out of me. They're like pain in my ass and I had to roll my eyes yet again.

It's the quirky characters and brilliant casting that set John Water's version of this story (that's been done a million times already) apart from the rest. Think Grease but with freaks and weirdos surrounding the attractive main character.

"Please Mr. Jailer, won't you let me man go free?
He don't belong in prison, though he's guilty as can be,
But the only crime he's guilty of is simply loving me.
Please Mr. Jailer, won't you let my man go free?"

Interesting side of view of Johnny, playing the bad boy and singing. It reminded me a little of grease. If you like musicals then you might want to watch this movie.

This was good but weird. It got kind of weird through the middle for reasons i can't remember.

Catchy songs and has been refered to in Supernatural (!) but still weird. Good though.

Holy crap! This movie is so ridiculous, but I loved it. Sure, it's a deliberately overly-campy musical, but more than that, it's a tribute to the Elvis films of the 50s. It's amazing that Johnny Depp still looks the same after 18 years. This film cements my belief that this man can't do anything wrong.

Bringing in all the bad boy / good girl cliches but that's part of it's charm. Bit of an Elvis touch. Shows that just because a person's better bred, it doesn't make them any nicer on the inside.

I saw this as a kid and knew it was weird, but, being a kid, didn't perceive a good deal of it as weird.

This movie is a typical chick flick... and i admit i wouldt have watched it if Johnny Depp wasnt in it... its a feel good movie... i found it very similar to the movie 'Grease' although a little rougher oh and the fact that johnnys in it!. but overall its a really good alternative movie to Grease!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free PS3 System or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 30 day free trial and it never cost me a penny and I received credit for it the same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you. After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-13 people (depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link (just post the same thing as I have on eBay, and you'll get your referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your Free gift or your selected item for free; No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals. All you have to do is post it on EBAY! They use us as advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you want. You must use your own authentic link though. "Allison" (Amy Locane) is an attractive Square who instantly falls for a juvenile delinquent "Wade 'Cry-Baby' Walker" when she sees him shed a single tear as he gets a shot at school and their eyes meet.

Both her grandmother (Polly Bergen) and her boyfriend (Stephen Mailer) try to keep her away from "Cry-Baby" and his gang. However, the gang accepts her to the point of giving her a "bad-girl" makeover.

After convincing the court to clear "Allison" of all chages after being taken into custody following a brawl, "Cry-Baby" is sent to jail, and a member of his gang loses custody of her (Ricki Lake) children (Jessica Raskin and Jonathan Benya). After some soul searching, "Allison" realizes just how much she cares for "Cry-Baby." She and the other (Drapes) go to the jail and put on one of many musical performance to convince the judge to release him.

There aren't any spectacular musical numbers in this movie, except for one in the jail. Nor is there good character development on the supporting cast of characters. However, there are some good, not great performances.

Johnny Depp is by far the best in the cast. He makes "Cry-Baby" quite likable and pretty campy. The rest of the cast have to work with an only fair script and poor character development.

None of the visuals are that memorable, maybe except when "Cry-Baby's" motorcycle is set on fire and is set crashing in the "Drapes" party. The fight which follows is not edited quite that well, but is decent.

There are a few comical moments that will make you chuckle out loud, but the rest of the jokes just don't work or they'll make you groan.

Director/writer John Waters does make what could be a horrible movie watchable, despite there being flaws in the script. He does make this worth taking a look at if you see it at your local rental store, but I probably wouldn't add it to my home video library.

I mean what was up with this story?!
Maybe you should only watch it if you're a big Johnny Depp fan because apart from that I didn't really see anything worth a watch. Everything just seemed...blah.
