Zachary Bennett, Stephanie Moore, Michael Riley

Following the grisly 1997 Cube and its 2002 sequel, Cube 2: Hypercube, Cube Zero stretches the original's The Twilight Zone-like, strangers-in-a-box theme a little thin. Fo...( read more  read more... )rtunately, there's a difference this time. The hero is not just another disoriented captive of the Cube's interconnected--often lethal--rooms, but rather a geek named Eric (Zachary Bennett) who sits in a control station wrestling with his conscience about inflicting misery on innocent people. Taking orders over the phone from some almighty, unknown power in a distant office, Eric reaches a breaking point and enters the maze himself, intent on helping a woman (Stephanie Moore) who doubts his motives. The existential bent of the prior films becomes even more Kafkaesque this time with the arrival of a white-collar team of tormentors, bureaucratic tyrants who can't or won't explain the point of the Cube. Imaginative writer-director Ernie Barbarash rescues what might have been a tedious formula flick. --Tom Keogh

Soldiers observing prisoners navigate a booby-trapped prison Cube start to question whether the Cube's builders have humanity's best interests at heart. The atmosphere of mystery and paranoia from the first two CUBE films is jettisoned in favor of explicit gore, elaborate traps,...( read more) and a cartoonish villain with a glittery metal implant for an eye; probably deals a fatal blow to the CUBE franchise, but it's not terrible strictly on a B-movie level.

I will grant you that the appeal of this movie is limited. I was intriged by the first one, and I enjoyed getting a better idea of how the hell people wound up in this thing.

If you show me a YES and NO button, I want to know what the YES button does, even if I'm sure I already know. This is one example of some stinky plot holes in this lil flick. This is an outright disappointing movie. Whilst, I like the concept that there are people monitoring the ...( read more)Cube and our fascination with "what is outside the Cube?" has finally been answered, too much of the story is contrary to the idea of the Cube as something that humans made through mindless bureaucracy, but is now essentially an independent entity gone out of control. In this Cube, the Cube has many design flaws and has been masterminded by a group of unknown "guys upstairs". This no longer a blind shuffle into death camps, this is a carefully planned organization utilizing a new brand of gulags, and "they" become the antagonist in place of the Cube itself. The acting is decent (for television), but the people inside the Cube are running through the same plot as the first movie and the 'sliced to pieces' kill famous from the first flick is repeated during a weaker point in this flick.

My biggest problem is a design one: though the Cube has been reverted to the multicolor oppressive grey of the first version, all of the doors are now circular. Don't call it Cube and give it circular doors - it completely RUINED all of the shots within the Cube. Furthermore, I've seen tons of exploitation and B movies, but this is the first to infer that you could MANUFACTURE AUTISTIC PERSONS.

The Cube prequel which shows things behind the scenes of those who are running the Cube maze; and they're just as much in the dark as those who are in it. The guard characters are either annoying or unrealistic. It reminded me of THX-1138 and Cube #1. The religious elements were ...( read more)fascinating. Entertaining, but nowhere near the classic.

If it was like the first it's pretty much garbage.

I love all the cubes they need to make a bunch of them

Pretty good third sequel. These films are really confusing but so good!!!

Lack of ideas Hollywood? Are you jealous because the first one was actually good and innovative?

Cube Zero would be a good movie if it was a stand-alone. Its (big) problem is that by offering a trivial explanation to the events in the first movie, it destroys what made Cube a masterpiece: the kafka-like feeling of a story where characters are thrown into terrifying situation...( read more)s for no apparent reason.

True to the series, a strong message is conveyed, increased budget makes for pleasing visuals

This is one of the best movies ever made, intelligent, futuristic, and believable.

A must see, just like cube...

I think this film provided a lot of backstory for the Cube series and linked to the 1st one really well.
