I really wanted to like this movie. However, I didn't like it all. A thing about it! It was very uninteresting and I was very dissapointed.

I loved loved loved this movie. It was adorable. Steve carell is my older man crush he was so cute. He has this innocence about him. Idk but emily blunt was beautiful(no surprise there). Loved the movie.

This was such a touching story. The characters all played off of each other so well that you couldn't help but get wrapped up in their story.

It was refreshing to see Carell in something other than a zany comedy. I liked the twists and tunrs and the story. It worked for me.

Meh... Too sweet for my taste.
But I'm not gonna say it's a bad movie. I'm sure you'll love it, if by any chance you're into this sort of films.
And Carell is quite funny as this 'How the hell am I supposed to deal with these teenage girls who happen to be my daughters' kind of father. I personally liked him better on the Daily Show, but I must admit he doesn't do bad here either.
This was a first for me, you know? I mean, watching him perform in a movie. And I was quite pleased to find his talent for comedy is still in shape.
But as it turns out, it wasn't enough to win me over. The romance factor is too much of a presence and spoils just about any laughs Carell's silliness may provide.
And besides, Binoche's being part of the cast didn't help all that much either. I don't know why, but that woman really gets on my nerves sometimes. I think maybe it's because of her annoying naive look and persistent silly-cute smile. A real pćozinho sem sal as they say in my country.
Roughly translating it, a real tiny bread without salt.

    What?
It makes sense where I come from.

The only thing i truly liked about this film was the music. It failed on all levels for me. I didn't buy the two main characters as a couple or see what they would see in each other, I also couldn't see why we should be cheering Dan on in stealing his brother's girlfriend. Yes, the brother had a past as a womaniser, but he said himself that he had changed since meeting this woman, so why was Dan more entitled to her!? The family scenes were just... nauseating in places. Honestly, I nearly lost my dinner over the group aerobics scene and the bit where they put on a talent show for each other.... yes, that's just what a family normally does together on holidays, and don't get me started on the "pigface" singing scene! It was also kind of dull and slow moving and not a comedy at all, which I was expecting.

Although it's refreshing watching Steve Carell actually proving he can act the movie is nothing special.

Wonderful heart-warming and funny look at family dynamics and dysfunctional characters from the writer of What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and a good showcase for the always dependable Steve Carell, who delivers another affable performance here. I was feeling sorry for Dan Burns (played by Carell) who became a 'loser' father of the family.

Steve Carell portrays a widower with three daughters interested in a woman he met at a book store. He falls for her in that first encounter where he talks to her for what seems like hours not knowing that she is already involved with his brother played by Dane Cook. Very interesting watching Carell try to put his feelings for this woman aside for the sake of his brother and keeping it a secret. Good date movie.

The trailer is misleading as this is more drama than comedy. But it is still very enjoyable. One of those movies where you aren't sure whether you should hope for a break up or not so the main character 'wins'. The family is a riot. Worth checking out.

this movie is really great, the only reason I take a half star off is because i thought the beginning was unbearably slow. but after you get through the first 10 minutes or so the movie is amazing, funny, creative, sad, and just out there.

I heard this movie was boring, but i really enjoyed it. I thought the acting was very good and this movie was pretty realistic. Not the typical role for Steve Carell, but i really liked it!

I am glad that Steve Carell wasn't over the top like some of his other movies. Could've been funnier. Dane Cook is a funny comedian, not a good actor.

just something about this flick just didn't click with me. Carell is a funny guy, but the material in this movie wasn't the best in my opinion

i found steve carell's performance affecting and sweet. this film certainly wasn't perfect, i do believe there were some casting missteps, in particular dane cook whom i find to be a horrible comedian and an even worse actor. also, dan's daughters are somewhat infuriating and frightening! fortunately though, i don't believe liking them are necessary to enjoying the film, rather it makes empathizing with the character of dan easier.

Good story and movie...but I don't like when a single dad as myself constantly has bad things happen to himself.

I liked this, but that's maybe because
i can relate to the failed oppurtunities, and mised chances. nevertheless i felt somewhat
connected to the movie. good in the end. Better than i expected.

I didn't care for this movie at all. As you probably know by now, I'm not a big Comedy fan anyway but this movie was just so predictable and stupid to me. I almost turned it off before it was over. There were a couple parts that made me laugh/smile, that's why I gave it as high of a rating as I did.

A bit of a different turn for Carrell - reminds me very much of Little Miss Sunshine - which Carrell also had a similar more dramatic that comedic role.

The film was marketed incorrectly - because this by no means was a laugh out loud comedy more along the lines of a dramedy, I really enjoyed this film, it was heartfelt and charming. Carrels' performance was great as were the supporting casts.
