    It starts as your good teen movie and then goes toward some weiird scenes I didn't get by serious.The ending is terrible and doesn't explain much. Doesn't look alternative, don't look mainstream and I got really sad cos I've waited a lot to see this! Bad.

    Dare really has a lot of potential genuis, but ultimately it falls flat. The film is incredibly scattered and really does not have any focus, and to top it off, all the characters and situations seemed really far fetched. In the begining we have good girl Alexa trying to "Do Some...( read more)thing You're Afraid Of", but then that fliight gets lost in midair. Then, in the middle, we have Ben, and his story makes absolutely no sense at all, so we are not even going to discuss it. And I do not really remember it. Finally, we end with Zach Gilford's character (I'm sure he had a name, but I have also forgotten it) who, consequently, is sleeping with both Ben and Alexa. Lovely, isn't it? Idk, in closing, the film left me confused. There are many interesting ideas presented throughout the whole duration, but none of them are really expanded on. I have no idea what Adam Salky was actually trying to say. Is the film about breaking out of one's shell? Trying to find one's in the world? Or something simple, like everyone is essentially messed up, or three-way sex is not a good idea. In the hands of someone like Sam Mendes, I think Dare could be absolutely amazing, but as it is, it just is not that great. Still, I enjoy watching it enough, and it tries so very hard, and you've got to give it credit for that.

    One final note: It makes me so happy that Bon Voage's song "Monster" was used. I realize that is completely shallow and irrelevant, but I love the song. Seriously, now? "I wish I was a monster/ I would hide under your stairs / I wish I was a nightmare / I'd give you a scare"

    This movie frustrated me. Not due to the ambiguous ending, but rather everything else about it. I personally found the short that this movie was based on much better. Salky's direction was focused and contained, which I found logic since Dare in different lengths is the on...( read more)ly thing he's ever seriously directed.

    I wish he had kept the short movie's actors in this one too, though. Gilford was great, as I found Ana Gasteyer and Rooney Mara. Emmy Rossum and Ashley Springer were tragically awful - I know that playing a sexually seductive psychotic person isn't easy, but they could have done better. On an even brighter note, Alan Cumming was marvelous.

    The two major flaws this movie had were the sex scenes and the lack of depth: the sex scenes were ridiculous. I would never demand this of a film, but since it has an R rating, lose the damn clothes - how many people always have sex with their clothes on? And as for the lack of depth, I of course am talking about the lack of offering the viewer insight so as to what the characters FEEL. I still have no idea why Alexa and Ben changed in the way they did or why they acted how they did. They were like robotic avengers with no emotions. Which brings me to another flaw: the characters were supposed to be high school students. Maybe the casting director should have picked people UNDER 23 to cast, because the actors are way too old to be high school students - Geez, make them college students for crying out loud because it's hard passing a 28-year-old for a high school senior.

    After all this ranting, I have to say, that I enjoyed the film to an extent. It's a deviation from the typical teen movies, and it deserves a chance. It's entertaining and accomplishes making you change your mind many times during it.

    Nothing special and why do these high school seniors all look over 25? Because they are! With teen actors everywhere you look they couldn't find three to star in this?

    It kind of made me uncomfortable at points and I'm not one to feel uncomfortable at movies.
    It felt very uneven. As if it wasn't even being directed by the same person the whole way though.

    Loved Zach Gilford's character. He actually seemed very well developed and I just loved everything about the character and Gilford. It was probably one of the best characters, in terms of development, that I've seen in a while.
    It was an alright movie. But just alright.

Emmy improved as the film went on, as did Ashley. However, Zach still stands out to me the most. His preformance was just more believable and real. I felt for his character ten times more than I did for the others.

    I also have to say that prior to watching this I watched the short film its based on, and I was very pleased to see that they did it wonderful justice. They actually used the same lines and everything, but they made it better, and took out the bad part.

    So overall I was initially not impressed, but my opinion changed completely once Zach's character was fully developed and portrayed (i.e. the third part of the movie). I would gladly watch this again and will probably end up buying it one day.

    What did this movie teach me? No one is who they appear to be on the surface. We all have deeper secrets worth exploring.
