  Now this is what I call a horror film. Part of the Ghost House Underground Collection and its over the top/ The make up is what one wants when watching horror. Near the end one scene puts Jeepers Creepers to shame. A father has is daughter in the hospital for test, the test go bad and he wants her out of that hospital, they get on the elevator to leave and so begins a journey into somewhere, but where. Full of evil and everything from ghost, ghouls and zombies. Want to have a fright party, don't want those little campers falling a sleep, this is the movie to watch. 5 stars

  You probably won't believe it of me, since I'm not a fan of Finnish heavy metal music at all, but I've wanted to see this film starring the former Eurovision Song Contest winners, Lordi, from the moment I first heard about it. The trouble is that there aren't very many DVD stores where I live and the ones that do exist have pitiful horror sections. Thus I was quite pleased to find that this (and quite a few other "Ghost House" films) are now on Netflix especially as I, like many other people, couldn't even get the service to work at all for most of Sunday night. Was it worth the wait though? Well, yes and no. "Dark Floors" is rumoured to be the most expensive Finnish movie ever and the very high production values seem to confirm this. It looks really good, not unlike "Silent Hill" or "Resident Evil" in places, but, storywise, it's quite confusing if you try to make it into anything other than a little girl's recurring nightmare. The majority of the film involves a small group of recognisable British TV actors (some with American accents) running around a deserted hospital which appears to be either purgatory or a kind of gateway to Hell (hence the title, "Dark Floors"). It's not overly original but occasionally there's a jump scare or other set piece of action which is quite effective. The special effects vary in quality but Lordi look really good as monsters and there's nothing jarringly bad about the extensive use of CGI at all. The set itself was completely real (according to my Googling) and built specifically for this film so you have to give credit where it's due. One thing which stood out for me was how much the security guard resembled Richard T. Jones from "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and, more recently, "Super 8". It's not him but the actor is certainly a "Richard T. Jones type" which makes me wonder why Richard T. Jones wasn't actually cast to play the role. He's certainly appeared in far worse. I also wouldn't be me if I failed to mention that the blonde Dominique McElligott stole the show entirely. She was convincingly terrified throughout. I have no idea if she's been in other movies but I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more of her in the horror genre or anything else for that matter. As much as all the actors did a really good job, the meaning of the story itself is open to so many interpretations that you'll either love it or hate it depending on how hard you want to think. I've noticed that a lot of Scandinavian films do this so it must be a cultural thing rather than bad writing. There's no real twist to this which would have made it a lot better though it's hinted at throughout. I really enjoyed it though Lordi aren't really the stars. The band members appear here and there as various ghosts and monsters, and, of course, Mr Lordi does his trademark wing-lifting thing near the end. It's really like a feature length version of their "Hard Rock Hallelujah" video but without any of their music which I'm somewhat grateful for. I'm not going to over-enthusiastically recommend "Dark Floors". It's something you might enjoy very late at night or as a supporting feature for something better which you want to watch.

  Eurovision Song Contest winners Lordi take part in their own film. It really could have been done without them, they just take on the roles of some ghosts and demons. It's typical stuck in a twisty, turny place hokum. Unexplained stuff happens, some of which is later explained, some that isn't. The jumps and set pieces were pretty decent, and it didn't come off as some kind of vanity project. In fact, Lordi's costumes made for creatures outside of your usual horror film. Shot with confidence and skill Dark Floors wont impress everybody, or anybody for that matter. But it will appease some of the genre fans.

  2.5/10 Horror films are such delicate things. They must be handled by capable filmmakers, and they must either be entertaining, scary, or beautiful. "Dark Floors", however, is a horror film in which only one word applies: ugly. Here's a movie that qualifies as one of the two worst kinds of horror movies, the first being "remake", and the second being "a horror movie that builds, builds, builds and manages to do absolutely nothing". Luckily, only the second one really applies. Guy and his autistic little girl get stuck in a Mental Hospital with some other random people. Everyone else is dead, yet they're not alone. Guy tries to be hero, and gets pissed whenever someone else, from the group, attempts to steal his torch. Enter supernatural monsters, and I think you've got yourself a horror movie. The plot moves along as the director probably thought it should, although it's all build-up until the climax. The build-up isn't interesting, and I came very close to turning this thing off. And then I figured, there must be some payoff. Boy, was I wrong. This film sins by not explaining too much. It's good when a horror film makes you use your imagination, but you can't imagine story-telling. I kept asking myself strange questions, one of them being: Why are these reptilian/demon monster-things wearing what looks like a radical "chain"? If you WANT to ask unnecessary questions that will never be answered, then maybe "Dark Floors" is for you. However, it's fairly insulting to me; as it is not poorly made, necessarily, just poorly written, acted, and conceived. This is what they mean when they say "Direct-to-video" in a very negative sense. No kidding; this is pretty bad. It's dumb, ugly, and fails to satisfy on any given level. Simply put, not scary, not entertaining, and worst of all; not at all fun. This film has officially sinned as only most modern horror films can.

  What else could be I said, I never watch a metal band played for movies. Especially with that costume, I wonder how many bucket of sweat dropped? :) For the keyboardist I love your voice that can break those glass, I hope ypur voice can break some ice inside my frozen heart.

So a concerned father takes his kid to the hospital and then all hell breaks loose, demons, ghosts and black pools that are alive like the monster in Phantoms are all after her for no reason in particular. I get to the end and it's the most batshit crazy ending I have seen in a long while because the best way I can describe is that is was a fever dream. It's not bad, it is entertaining to watch the morally ambiguous guy in the group of people at the hospital trying to hand over the the child to the monsters but what the hell for?

  It's clearly that this movie was inspired by "Silent Hill" with a bit of "Groundhog Day" . I found it to be very entertaining where the eerie atmosphere and the special effects are the plus of this movie. I didn't know the monsters are part of a ock and roll band named "Lordi" till I watched this flix. This movie received mixed reviews, more negative than positive because it was found confusing but at least for me, it was not and it was unexpectedly a good movie.

  When a man is conerned for his autistic daughters health he decided she will be better off outside of a hospital when he goes to take her out is when the problems begin as he ends up stuck in a elevator with four other people when the doors finally open they find themselves in a dark and empty hospital trying to find out what happened they come across creatures and there only hope might be his little girl. Movie started off really good but the ending was a let down that kept this from getting more stars still worth a watch and is also one of the 8 movies Ghosthouse Pictures released
