A boy android takes command of a top secret blackbird aircraft in this kiddie spy caper adventure. One of the coolest flicks of 1985. (Back to the Future beat it out for the coolest).

Mostly memorable for the scene where the Daryl flies the SR-71 Blackbird, what a moment to see a kid in the '80s. I used to get parts of D.A.R.Y.L. confused with Flight of the Navigator - a similar storyline where a kid becomes "wanted" by the government.

Daryl (Baret Oliver) is an acronym name for "Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform = D.A.R.Y.L." is created by the government as an experiment in Artificial Intelligence. Daryl live with his foster parents Joyce (Mary Beth Hurt) & Andy (Michael McKean) Richardson meet their neighbors: Howie (Steve Ryan) & Ellen (Colleen Camp) Fox & their children Sherie (Amy Linker) & Turtle (Danny Corkill).

"What IS a hooker?" Not everyone's familiar with this one, or REMEMBERS it. It stars Barrett Oliver (Bastian of The NeverEnding Story) and...that guy from This Is Spinal Tap. D.A.R.Y.L. is a very real little boy, but in actuality, D.A.R.Y.L. stands for D.ata A.nalysing R.obot Y.outh L.ifeform. D.A.R.Y.L. is a computer. A guy sneaks him out of the labarotory one day, and Daryl gets a glimpse of the real world. He ends up in an adoption service, and is adopted immediately by a loving family, and he makes friends with neighbor kid, who is very shameless, knowledgable, and honest. A very heart-warming and believable Sci-Fi/Family/Drama.

Pretty good. The story is there but there are a few holes here and there. The tech is a little funny in today's world but the story works anyway.

I was always convinced that on the *next* viewing, "The Jetsons" would somehow appear in the movie since they were on the box. It never happened, and I was disappointed. Nevertheless, this was a favorite from childhood.

And this is one of the most tender -- Barret Oliver is SUPERB and the storyline will melt your heart -- You'll also end up laughing yourself silly at some of the subtle jokes -- Watch it several times to get the full effect --

A pretty cool premise that's executed well. Wave o the future stuff done right can build very good plots.

It's been years since I've seen this, but this was one of the first movies I loved enough to buy the book [I think I was four].

Great family-sci-fi tale of a little boy who discovers he is really an android. After escaping from a maximum-security research facility, D.A.R.Y.L. (Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform) is rescued and adopted by the Richardson family (Michael McKean and Mary Beth Hurt). This movie is one of my all time favorites; it is absolutely fantastic! It is a warm, endearing, classic tale of boyhood bonds that withstand any hardships "the military is evil" look at things so popular in the 80's movies, but still, it's fun. It does a good job of exploring what it means to be a human or a child, on a level that a 7 or 8-year old can understand.

fun to see buyt some SERIOUS plot problems. Fro example, the guy at the beginning pushing daryl out of the car and driving off a cliff--why? he didnt want to be caught? and why did all the government agents all the sudden dispatch to chase the old guy who stole him near the end? like, 5 cars after him--why? And the fact that he plays pole position, and because of this, can drive a car perfectly, and know how to get the car on two wheels just from watching it on TV? Huh??? Oh well . And a kid named "Turtle"? who names their kid turtle???!!!
