I love this movie. I like the tension and relationships between characters adding a little subtext to the plot. There seems to be more drama between people than with the actual disease itself.
Great movie! Should have made it more like Wisconsinites. If they all were zombies, they wouldn't be at the mall, they would be at Lambeau Field. God, get it right!
A great watch. Far from the days of the black and white zombie flick, Dawn takes us to the modern day living day. The visual effects prove awesome with characters that you love, hate and even love to hate. Putting the cast in familiar settings brings you into the movie where you might find yourself imagining the possibilities of what you might do if you were there with them. While this is a good movie, I miss the days when movies were scary just because they were. Today's horror puts us there and frightens us with action and noise. The suspense of fear, while it does shup up in Dawn, is lost to the effects and the sudden "boo." Don't be pushed away, watch it.
Snyder's Dawn of the Dead follows the fortunes of a nurse, Ana (Sarah Polley), and a policeman, Kenneth (Ving Rhames). They soon encounter another policeman, André (Mekhi Phifer), his pregnant wife Luda (Inna Korobkina) and a white-collar hero named Michael (Jake Weber). This band grows in number when the survivors decide to seek sanctuary in a shopping mall and meet some initially hostile security guards. Before long, more survivors enter the mall, making this film much busier than it's precursor. The larger number of characters gives the film a sociable atmosphere absent from the original, in which the intense alienation of the four survivors was more palpable. This larger number also provides the opportunity for a number of gruesome dispatchments. Snyder's movie delivers plenty of tense action set-pieces, while upgrading Romero?s lumbering blue-skinned zombies into living dead Olympic runners who'll stop at nothing to get their hands on human flesh. Refusing to skimp on the gross-out, this Dawn delivers a series of memorable scenes that will have viewer retching. While a string of comedic moments provide some welcome light relief amidst all the horror. Dawn of the Dead is exciting and exuberant: moored in Romero's subtext, but anchored by its craft and respect for genre. It's driven by cinema rather than theory, fitting comfortably into the new wave of technically proficient, thematically nihilistic horror films.
good. it even had a small scene that actually strangely did creep me out-not that i was looking 4 that. in this one baby zombies came about tho... that was cool.
Not a bad movie at all.
I liked it actually.
Ending sucked as all zombie movies do....
I liked the plot, and the characters, although most were fucking annoying. I have to say the zombies weren't that bad. Damn that zombie baby was fucking ugly.
This is one of several horror movies that I truly enjoy watching. Although, I can't be sure whether or not I like the original Dawn Of The Dead.
Anyway, everyone was impressed by the sheer horror value of this film and it really was no suprise. One of the best zombie movies by far.
this is one of the best zombie films ever. there's a remake of day of the dead being made and there's rumours of a sequel to dawn of the dead. even the credits were good to watch. good special effects
Successful zombie remake which actually provides quality acting from its stars along with the superb zombie makeup. The closed surroundings and the realistic sets really provide quality scares that many remakes fail to achieve.
probably the best of george romero's zombie thrillers. this movie turned out to be the most realistic of all his movies but a group of people being stranded in a mall with zombies all over the place. i liked how they took you through the events that were unfolding elsewhere in the world and how others were trying to survive. movie was good and not too much i would change, except maybe the end. for once id actuatly like the main characters to survive in a horror movie. characters and costumes were done perfectly and the acting was pretty good for a zombie movie. overall best zombie movie, except if you count 28 weeks movies.
The original Dawn of the Dead is one of my favorite movies. As such, I was very leery about this remake, featuring the ever popular Jesse Owens Zombies. While it dipped into mainsteam melodrama occasionally, overall the remake of DOTD is a well done, high paced horror show. The ending was particularly impressive, capturing the apocalyptic spirit of 70's era zombie doom fests.
Zombies in a mall, the remake, feels like a tired and frantic flick at th same time. Director fuses Romero with faster zombie directors and jerks the camera around so that all people with attention problems can't look away. Not really an improvement. Not really necessary.
The beginning was looking promising but the movie quickly got worse... One of the zombies had no legs and somehow found a way to jump on someone's back... WTF?
For not being a fan of sci-fi or "Zombies" this movie did catch my attention. I was plesantly surprised and end up enjoying the entire movie. It was scary, had an interesting concept, and one of the most unpredictable endings I've seen in a horror movie. They did a great job.
I haven't seen the original because in my experience, the older zombie movies are cheesy at best (Night of the Living Dead, anyone?), but this one certainly held my interest. Kind of an unresolved ending, but that seemed fitting to the story anyway. Great cast, too.
This movie is excellent. It really makes you feel like you are in the situation with the characters. Keeps you terrified even after it is over. It is way better than the original.
The first 30 minutes was so lame.. poor acting, bad dialogue! ughh.. but afterwards, it shows it's magic!
This movie rocks!
i'm always fascinated by zombies movies, and this one gives me pleasure.. lol
Tense action, Crazy zombies, and please that baby zombie is nuts!!
tepid remake of the classic...this version has more violent action..just does not leave the viewer with the same sensation..different music score...only two reasons to do a remake..improve on first or for profit...im guessing 'must be the money',,,,
