A very cheesy film attempting to get in theaters. It's not as good as the Dawn of the Dead remake & not on par with the original Day of the Dead, even though it is a completely different film.Entertaining but is a film that i don't want to see over & over.A attempt to cash in after the success of the Dawn of the Dead remake

One of Romero's better zombie movies. I liked the action and costumes they had. I did not really like the plot to the movie or the way the zombies acted. I thought the zombies being able to use weapons was a little much and the way they said the zombies were smart and had feelings. The plot could have used a little more work too in that all they did the entire movie was try to get back their war machine that guys on the inside stole and they incorporated zombies in the awkard plot. i liked the leading roles on the other hand, they were done by pretty famous and talents actors/actresses. characters and costumes and overall design of the sets did not lack at all..

Not what I was expecting at all. The zombie's literally change in an instant. Could have been much better...Bud was good though.

this actually was a really good remake.
nd it had vingrhames in it starring in another zombie movie.
he was in dawn of the dead this time he dies quickly.
the action was cool, i like the fast pacin leaping zombies which waht made this movie good.
jus like resident evil 5. -
Sure it doesn't match up to the likes of Dawn Of The Dead but it's still an impressive zombie flick. Sometimes it moved a little quick but overall it's still good :)

This is one of the worst horror remakes I have ever seen. Ok before I start saying everything bad that was in the film and let me tell you theres alot, lets start with some good. It had resonable effects. Yep thats it and they wernt great effects just resonable. Ok and here comes the bad things, horrible acting, terrible plot nothing like the original, sucky directing, and the zombies could climb up walls and hop. Yes hop like frogs. You have to wonder if this director said ok I want to see how bad of a movie I could make. I personally loved the original Day of the Dead. But this exept for the name is a compleatly diffrent movie. Day of the dead had decent gore but nothing to write home about and not worth the price that this DVD would cost to get. I would have to say STAY AWAY from this movie trust me its not worth it.

It was different from the original movie. Not quite as good, but some scenes made me jump! The Zombies were ok, but what's with the super Zombie strength??? But all in all, it was amusing.

I liked this movie, and I probably would have liked it more if it had been called almost anything other than "Day of the Dead". Because even more so than Zack Snyder's mediocre 2004 Dawn of the Dead, this isn't really a remake of Romero's film so much as it is a cash grab using the name and trying to capitalize on the reputation of one of his classic DEAD films. Snyder's film (an inferior film to this in every other way) was at least set in a mall; even if it made no use whatsoever of the mall setting and could just as easily have been set in a school, factory, or whatever. This film really had NOTHING in common with Romero's 1985 classic (apart from some character names) and seemed to being borrowing elements from several other films, most notably Romero's THE CRAZIES and Umberto Lenzi's INCUBO SULLA CITTA CONTAMINTA. I was also reminded of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD PART 2, the remake of THE BLOB, and a couple others. Some scenes had a definite 80's slasher flick vibe, too - not surprising when you consider who directed this. Steve Miner is a good director, but overall he was almost certainly the wrong choice to direct this, since he's better at moody, slower paced films. The frantic, frenetic style used here is out of Miner's usual territory and would have better suited, say, Marcus Nispel.
Cast wise, DAY works pretty well. You may not think that cute-as-a-button Mena Suvari would make a convincing soldier, but she pulls it off quite nicely. Ving Rhames is kind of wasted as Captain Rhodes, and while the (SPOILER!!!) noises he makes as a zombie are funnier than they were meant to be, he does have the coolest overall gore moment in the film when he eats his own eyeball. Nick Cannon is good in his role, but I can guarantee you horror fans are going to call it a terrible performance. Why? Because he's Nick Cannon, silly.
Tyler Bates provides the effective music.
Overall an above average 21st century (running) zombie flick that suffers in comparison with the Romero classic from which it gets it's name. Better than Snyder's Dawn of the Dead. -
I don't care what anyone says,I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.I haven't had a zombie movie actually scare me in a long time and this one kinda scared the shite out of me.The dude on the ceiling was priceless. They changed it up quite a bit but kept Bub's character. The only thing I thought was truly gay-tarted was the way they burned.Like cheesy vampire movies. If not for that,it would've got 5 stars from me.I could see things that the nitpickers would say they didn't like but get over it people.I say "good job, please do it again".

well what to say about this one other than there is a reason some films go straight to dvd and this is a prime example to the fact.
who in there right mind would cast ickle mena suvari as a hero who is in the army honesty my 9 year old daughter is more convincing, sure it followed the proper rules of a zombie flick but none of the love none of the oooh zombie gonna get ya feeling i manly had i wish this would end type feelings
even the most avid zombie film lover would have a hard time watching this i know i did -
good storyline... great cast... and finally a female lead roll in a good zombie movie.... there are a few thingz that stuck out more so in this film then other Zomibe flims... for example..... The Zombies did have some traits for just a need to feed... others retained some basic knowledge... super human abilities... being able to move faster... jump higher.. crawl on walls and ceilings.. ( which fukin ROCKED! you tell me the last time you saw a zombie crawl up the walls and crawl on the ceiling..) able to jump out of windows quite a few stories up.. land.. and just keep chasing.. even able to retain some basic knowledge how to drive a pick-up! Other Zombies have very advanced hyper scences and are able to do Matrix like moves and even dodge bullets! Some are able to snatch bodies without being seen... If your looking for a different kind of Zombie movie with a bit of a twist... then give this one a try.. it won't let u down...

A remake of the George Romero classic, but not a sequel to the recent Dawn of the Dead remake, Day of the Dead sees military personal and scientists fend off the unstoppable armies of the living dead...when hell is full, the dead will walk the earth.

Nearly everything I'd read about this movie was negative, but after finally seeing it for myself it's really not so bad. It's not something you'll want to see again and again, but if you're in the mood for a mindless zombie movie, then this is an entertaining example of one......Of course story is nothing new but I didn't care what really matter is if you want a good fun gore fest, then this should work just fine. Don't expect high quality, just look forward to enjoying yourself and you will be satisfied. -
Every bit as bad as you think. A shameless attempt to cash in on the success of the Dawn of the Dead remake (probably the best zombie movie ever and FAR superior to the original). They take the same approach of the fast zombies, as opposed to the "zombie shuffle," and even cast Ving Rhames (not as the same character), no doubt to try to fool people into thinking it's some kind of sequel.
But it's just what you'd expect from a direct-to-video release (I can't believe they ever even considered a theatrical run) - low budget, horrible effects, terrible direction, and a cast of has-beens and nobodies. But I will give it this: it starts off pretty fast, and keeps going full steam all the way to the end. Not a good film by any measure, but if you're looking for cheap horror you can laugh at, then maybe it's worth a view. -
Honestly, this is SO much better than I was expecting. I presumed this would be on par with Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (the worst film ever made), but no. Infact, I'm actually going to say this film has fantastic set-pieces. The dialogue is AWFUL, the plot is derivative and nonsensical, the acting is atrocious (even the likes of Ving Rhames is bad, God knows how they got such a wooden performance from him) and the characters are all bland and unlikeable. The plot is also riddled with more holes than that guy in Robocop who gets shot to pieces by that big-ass robot by accident.
The film's biggest problem is definately the writing. None of the dialogue is believable or flows, it's all just paint by the numbers set ups and characterisations. Bud just randomly says "I'm a vegetarian" out of nowhere to set up the fact for when he becomes a zombie who doesn't eat people (the most retarded plot point I've ever encountered in a movie ever by the way). The brother and sister start squabbling in the car about their past in a horribly unbelievable sequence that feels SO staged and just there to set accross "these are real humans, and they are siblings". It just doesn't work on any level.
But, as said, the set pieces aren't half bad. If the film's budget wasn't so obviously non-existant, and the actors were better, they'd be great scenes. But unfortunately, they're not so the scenes still fall short of the mark. That and this is a remake of an absolutely brilliant film, and as such, yes, it rapes the good name of Day of the Dead.
Judged on it's own terms, you could do alot worse for a zombie movie (Resident Evil: Apocalypse for example), but the film is still awful.
Personal enjoyment: 3/10 (but part of that was for how hilariously bad it was in parts, hence it doesn't get a score boost)
Actual quality as a film: 2/10 -
Nothing terribly special. This is just one more average arse zombie movie to throw on the big pile of other average arse zombie movies. Innocent characters who you thought would last are picked off. cool gore effects, not so cool zombie-on-the-ceiling special effects, people die, zombie are crushed, uninteresting plot, bad acting, unnessacary character development, un-scary atmosphere setting, big whoop, the end.
-
Would have been almost a decent stand alone movie except for a couple of annoyances. Nick Cannon... got to go. Zombies getting very gory and having lesions on their face as soon as they turned was kind of stupid. Crawling on the sides of the walls, could have been interesting if done right. Ving Rhames was cool in his brief appearance.
-
Nowhere near as bad as I was expecting from reading the reviews on imdb. Sure there was a lot of bullshit, like people infected rot instantly, run and be crazy martial arts types. But the acting was no worse than your regular horror movie and neither was the plot. Bunch of survivors try to kill/escape from the zombies that have over run the town after the government has quarantined the area.
-
it was like they took everything that made the original great and threw it out the window. It was funny - though it was not meant to be. Funny because it was ridiculous: vegetarian zombies, zombies who crawl along the roof. George A Romero would be turning in his grave (I know he's not dead, but he probably sleeps in a grave anyway)
-
Hmmmm...I thought I rated this one. Oh well! Seen it. Quite interesting. Steve Miner directs this movie. An interesting cast. Good story plot. Although I like the zombie aspect of this, I think I prefer the namesake. It would have been nice to see Rhodes make it though. Quite worthy.
-
This movie should not be made at all. The worst part of this movie was the script closely followed by the direction. The original movie was a sequel and built on what had come before it. The only bright point in this thing was Mena Suvari, she did a pretty decent job.
-
I really enjoyed this movie even though it did'nt come close to a remake of the orginial, but it had gore galore. Ving Rhames from Dawn of the Dead has a role and gets to play a zombie which was really cool.
-
this is a piece of shit the worst adaptation of a good directors work i have ever seen director please kill yourself willonly be buying to complete my collection
-
Just another remake. There's nothing special about it. The only reason it has a 2 1/2 rating is because it held my attention throughout and had some good gore.
-
Cheese and Chiller in unequal measure. This remake from the director of 'Halloween H20" goes overboard with the insectoid-zombie hybrids.
