This movie does not deserve the rating I gave it, let that be known, but I loved it. A meteor shower one night blinds the greater majority of mankind and spread spores that grow into walking, gas-spewing, man-eating plants! Hokey acting, hokey science, hokey special effects, and uber-dramatic music ensues as our square-jawed hero must fight to survive as one of the few people with their eyesight still intact. It ain't War of the Worlds, but it's so much more entertaining than I expected it to be. This is classic science fiction right here, seemingly ripped straight from old pulp mags. Triffids are my new favorite plant monsters now.
This movie is redicolous, some plant comes from a meteorite, lands on earth and then there's gazillions of murderplants. The acting is bad, the special effects are silly and it's just what you can expect from any kind of monster movie. A cute kid, unrealistic survival scenes, hero and heroine falling love and a silly reason why the monsters becomes easy to defeat.... oh, and I can't forget the best, the monsters are so might and powerful and shoot poison at the B-character, but never even try to shoot posion at the main characters. The movie is painfully boring and it's not even so bad it's funny. It's just BAD.
Not bad, not good either, if one film really deserves a remake, it is this Wyndham classic...better to watch the 1960's Village of the Damned instead, or the 1980's BBC TV series of the Wyndham book...oh but what's this I hear? Steven Speilburger has bought the rights to this book...look out for a shiney new adaptation with a really shit ending then
Based on a great story, this movie breaths life into the killer plants. This is a movie I would love to see remade. Also if you have not read the book, check it out.
one of my favorite early childhood memories. triffids are almost as bad-ass as alligators. i had a dream i remade this with Ellen Page (aka Kitty Pryde) -- only in the dream she actually became a triffid 2/3 of the way through and commenced to nibble on people. oh, she was also a cool translucent amber color and had buck-tooth fangs and was prone to melodrama, but that's a whole other story.
This is another great movie!!!!
Mayb old, but it has everything!!!!
Suspence, gore (a lil bit)
And a bit of humour.
Surprisingly the special effects are good!!!
great story BAD film lol giant sunflowers that eat you! my god the acting is blah and well tho i enjoy seeing people killed by wel anything...the triffids didn;t seem all that meneacing in this film...BBC one made in the 80's? is much better tho i'd like to see a modern remake. worth the watch
My mom used to have this movie, so I watched it as a kid. It's one of the first horror movies I watched and I was hooked. The sound effects they used to signify that the Triffids were moving was a little odd, but a smart idea. And because I was a kid, I didn't mind that the special effects weren't so great because I still had an imagination. lol.
