A great satirical comedy that parodies great Hollywood noir films of the '40s. What makes the movie exceptional is the use of digitally-imposing past Hollywood stars such as Bogart and Bergman in scenes with Steve Martin.

So well done, the old footage fits in so well, and Steve does some hilarious stuff with it. A really good mixture of Homage and Comedy.

This is my favorite Steve Martin movie. I love old film noir, and in addition to being very, very funny, this film pays tribute to all those great mysteries from the '40s and '50s. The more you know about such films, the more you'll enjoy this movie. Just don't say "cleaning woman"...

This movie taught me one of the most important lessons in life: there was a man called Humphrey Bogart and he was the equivalent of gold.

I can't believe this film hasn't found an audience. It's so clever and funny. A really unique experience. Also it was the last film where Steve Martin was at the top of his game.

This comedic homage to 40's and 50's film noirs is well made but it wears a bit thin after a while because of its flat premise. However what makes it decent watch is Steve Martin's funny performance and there are pretty witty scenes. Also all the scenes were Martin himself was interacting with archival clips from many of the films during that time were extremely well done. Not great as it should have been but it was an okay watch.

Occasionally amusing, but the idea of a lesser actor (Martin) poking fun at a genuine Hollywood icon (Bogart) and not being very funny in the process does not appeal at all.

A funnily smart technical satire that wears off over the repitition. Only for film noir fans only or steve martin acting wannabes. The films good for a comedy but it doesnt have enough material to make it worth remembering. Besides the technical originality of the film sets you brainless for what the plot or characters even are... so... its one thumb up, the other down

Good for a laugh, Carl Reiner and Steve Martin made a great team...a very warm tribute to detective movies of the 1940's.

How can you deny the mindless sarcasm of Steve Martin?! Awesome meshing of old footage for a silly parody of classic private dick flicks.

An underrated film from back when Steve Martin was funny. Using clips from classic black & white movies, he's able to share scenes with the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Bette Davis, and Veronica Lake.

Very cleverly made parody of the old detective movies. It uses scenes from real movies and cuts them into the film. It's pretty funny in places but even when it isn't you can still enjoy it a lot.
