Well folks, it finally happened, someone made an effective amusing Vietnam zombie movie. Alright well Cannibal Apocalypse is good too and I'm sure there are others, but this is the first zombie film of it's nature that I saw. Oddly Columbia House accidentally shipped this film to me and darn it for once I'm glad they screwed up because this is pretty darned interesting.
A young man goes to war, then his family is devastated when they receive word that he has died in combat. Oddly a few days later he returns home...and doesn't quite seem right. People of course start dying around the area, and at first nobody suspects him. Then his Father is somewhat on to him, but his Mom remains in complete denial so we get to experience their perspective on the situation too which is definitely interesting.
It was very well shot, and even as a period piece it's fascinating to watch. It has some humor in while not being an out and out slapstick, and it actually has a bit of a body count, however slow moving it begins. It is just one of those films that was actually a smart idea, and it was well executed and entertaining for most willing to put the time in.
Hard to really rate since nothing much happens but it's got a ton of atmosphere and the music is good and it's just got that '70s Horror vibe that I like.
After being informed by the army that their son had died in Vietnam, the boy suddenly shows up at the family's door, a little bit changed... Original premise at the time, but has been done better since; not sure how Vietnam vets will feel about being depicted as soulless killing machines.
An interesting horror film from the director of A Christmas Story. Basically a by the numbers slasher with a Vietnam twist. Tom Savini did some effects work.
