MCT:April 17, 2008I dug it, shoot me! I'm not a fan, nor a hater of Paul W.S. Anderson (I do dig MORTAL KOMBAT, RESIDENT EVIL, and SOLDIER), I love the shit out Jason Statham, and I'm a confessed fan of Tyrese (the guy's got charisma, presence, and talent), so this movie had more good things than bad going in for me.
Yes it's shot in the typical Anderson action method of lots of close-ups and quick cuts, but it still managed to thrill me. The opening car race is balls, and all of the following races succeed in entertaining. I also adored the revenge angle (people who know me know how much vengeance tickles my funny bone!), Statham rocks the house as always, and the majority of the laughs are genuine (despite a few black sheep). Also, Ian McShane was kickass too and his dialogue and character were actually very well-written. Joan Allen kind've over does it as the one-dimensional evil warden, but it worked for the movie. And best of all? UNAPOLOGETICALLY R RATED!
On the downside, the film didn't have much of a explanation for the world it took place in (which I hear was awesome in the script), the ending was little too abrupt (I needed some more resolution), the smoking hot girl couldn't act for shit, and... well the quick-cut action (but it still entertained me.
Bottom line, if you dig Statham, see this bitch! If you want R-Rated glory? See this bitch! If you want easy fun and crowd pleasing entertainment? See this bitch! Mr. Anderson, I forgive you for fucking up AVP! -

I don't know why I would want to see this. There is NO WAY that this could ever be as good as the original.
But hey, I bet it will be good in it's own right.. Besides, how long before this kind of stuff really starts happening? lol -

Death Race Summary:
The Transporter star Jason Statham takes the wheel in director Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of the Roger Corman classic about a hyper-violent cross-country race that breaks all of the traditional rules of the road. Co-stars include Joan Allen, Ian McShane and Tyrese Gibson, who takes over the role of Machine Gun Joe, made famous by Sylvester Stallone in the original.

I don't seeig this done as a remake. They just have to take the original and update. No deep, intertwining story, 20 minutes of dialouge, or let uwe bowel touch it.
