This is one instance were it's ok to judge a movie by it's cover.This is easily the best shark film that isn't JAWS. While eye found a bit of the elements weird and unanswered. Just how the hell did a Mako shark get so huge? That thing must have been at least 40 feet long! But besides that gripe and other scientific errors it was a really enjoyable film. Samule Jackson died a very sudden and random death that equals awsome! Give this a try if you'r tired of JAW 3 and JAWS:THE REVENGE.

MCT:August 19, 2008This is one of the few good shark films along with Jaws and Shark Attack 3. The great thing about this film is that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. It's just a fun and wild B-movie. I would say that there's nothing better than a B-movie with Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J and Thomas Jane. If you like sharks, explosions and cheesy movies, this is right up your alley.

As far as shark movies go, there is no way anyone can ever top the original Jaws. Thankfully, this movie never even tries. It's a straight forward monster movie that is as preposterous as it is entertaining. A trio of genetically enhanced sharks feed on the scientists who experimented on them when their underwater research lab begins to flood. A diverse cast of characters tries to make their way to the surface before they become the next snack. The movie also contains one of the best "didn't see that coming" moments in movie history. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. Director Renny Harlin keeps things moving very quickly, and is helped by geniunely convincing performances from his cast. It's not Jaws, but then again, it's also not Jaws: The Revenge.

If the Jaws sequels let you down, then you'll want to watch this one. Although a lot of the CGI sharks in this look shite, they are nonetheless scarier than the awkward puppets in Jaws 3 and 4.

Not a bad movie at all. Samuel L. Jackson is the fucking man in this as usual. I just love it when he's talking and all of a sudden, for no reason, he's shark bait. It was exciting. And everyone but LL Cool J and that other guy dies! Yes!

I found The Deep Blue Sea to be scarier than Jaws, maybe because it was more modern and the sharks looked more realistic.

Steven Spielberg already made the ultimate shark movie, the world didn't really need another one. Until Renny Harlin decided to make Deep Blue Sea. Yes it's even more unrealistic and not always entirely logic, but also so extremely exciting you're on the edge of your seat the entire 100 minutes. The movie takes its time for the introduction of the characters and then kicks you into the cold water with such an incredible scare after half an hour that you haven't entirely recovered when the next one hits you. Not really caring about the usual order of demise of characters it stays unpredictable, cruel and thrilling until the very end. Thomas Jane is particularly convincing as badass shark wrangler, just like LL Cool J as preaching cook. The effects are pretty damn good, and the music makes sure to additionally tighten the noose as the water keeps rising. Let's just say now there are two shark movies everyone should see: Spielberg's as the classic and this one as his little mean, exciting bastard brother.

Oh man. The best animatronic sharks I have ever seen. I watch this movie all the time. I don't care how stupid it is. It rocks. One of the only good things Renny Harlin has ever done.

Its not just ladies that love cool James, its MASSIVE SHARKS TOO, as LLCOOLJ found out. I thought the idea was sharp, and with the modern special effects, jaws is no longer needed. My sort of film. but the poor parrot...........

This was great, your run of the mill shark times ten, creating a beast of pure violence and destruction. LL Cool J was a funny bastard too.
