None of the archaeologists in Lucio Fulci's horror classic expected to stumble onto a 16th century convent when they were out on a dig in Sicily. But they have, and now Liza (Meg Register) is plagued ...( read more  read more... )by nightmares of the convent's dark past, rife with sorcery and murder. Bereft of any style, mood or scares you'd think this was a Bruno Mattei disaster instead of Lucio Fulci.
A few (2) good gory moments but unless you're a Fulci completist there's no reason to suffer through this demonic dud.

One good death does not a movie make, but when it's Fulci it kinda does. Moderately good film, the atmosphere makes up for what the story lacks. Worth watching once you've seen all Fulci's great ones.

The killings in this film is one of the finest in Fulci's films. Worth watching for that reason and overall, it really is rather more campy overall, with a silly plot and overall, a nice feel to the whole film brings about the fantastic killings much more, also, the fact that the...( read more) film is short is good too, it really has little in the way of it.

While the goofy-to-incomprehensible plot (something about devil-worshipping nuns who are crucified and return from the dead with the help of an archaeology student) would seem to promise, at the very least, a good old fashioned splatterfest from legendary gorehound Lucio Fulci, r...( read more)egrettably "Demonia" finds the maestro coasting on fumes. When Fulci brought his A-game to flicks like "The Beyond" and "City of the Living Dead", the stylish, atmospheric direction and bloody eviscerations made them seem like twisted fever dreams. The cheaply-produced "Demonia", on the other hand, features only an occasional smattering of Fulci's trademark creepy visual flourishes, while the perplexingly lazy plot unfolds at a meandering, choppy pace that's trying even for diehard fans of low-budget Italian horror. Of course, even the worst Fulci flicks usually offer up at least a few juicy highlights, but here the gory deaths (speargun, double impalement on spikes, a guy who inexplicably gets wishboned in half, and the piece de resistance, a lady who gets savaged to death by what looks like a squadron of taxidermied cat puppets) are pretty much the only reason to sit through what could otherwise have been a sleazy, bloody cult classic along the lines of "House by the Cemetary"... heck, even "New York Ripper" had more style than this.

Just as Sodomas Ghost came years after the Nazisplotation craze had died down Demonia is a supernatural nun flick that arrives on the nunsploitation scene a decade or so late.

The film borrows a lot of its style from Jess Franco and its ideas from City Of The Living Dead and T...( read more)he Beyond. This point is underscored by the fact that the lead character is called Liza though Meg Register is cast in a role that would have ideally suited Catriona Macoll.

Also features Fulci regulars Brett Halsey (Devil's Honey) and Al Cliver (Zombi 2)
