A theatre in town is handing out promo tickets for an unknown movie Cheryl (Hovey) and her friend Hannah decide to attend. The mostly empty theatre begins watching a movie involving demonic possession, and not long after the start of the film the patrons find the events on screen are also happening in the theatre. Lamberto Bava directs a script co-written by the legendary Dario Argento and it is a solid Italian horror with well done creature effects, a kick-butt 80's soundtrack, and loads of gore. The concept is essentially The Evil Dead inside a movie theatre, the same rules apply: there is no way to tell who the demons are going to possess next, and there is no way to reverse the process once it occurs. Though it is not an original concept, Demons is well executed. There are weaknesses in the demon makeup and there are some issues with the English-dubbing, but much of that is expected from an Italian horror movie, especially any film carrying Argento?s name, and they are easy issues to overcome.

In terms of the story wasn't doing anything for me but it was suspenseful enough with plenty of gore & good effects.

Now this was a pretty cool film; sadly I am having trouble finding it. Anyhow, the acting was pretty good and the effects of the people transgressing to demons looked pretty painful. Definitely worth seeing.

Je vous le conseil énormément!! Si vous adorez comme moi le sang qui coule à flot, les visages pleins de vert et de conneries et des corps mutilés et pétrifiés, eh bien, achetez le j'vous dis ce Lamberto m'interesse!

Excellent, rollicking splatter fest from Argento. Fast paced, frenetic italo cum disco bloodbath. This movie is unrelating, but campy enough so as not to disturb the masses. Highly recommended with popcorn and vodka.

People get free tickets to a movie screening from a mysterious man in a metal mask, one scrapes a poster of a demon in the lobby, as in the film they watch on screen, she transforms into a demon and begins infecting the rest of the audience, worse st...(read more)ill everyone has been locked inside the theater.

It doesn't get more 80's B grade than this, but there's a kind of liberation in something so silly, riding a motorcycle with a samurai sword and a beautiful girl wrapped around your waist, while Billy Idol blares in the background, and you decapitate monsters left and right.

However it is an original take on the Apocalypse film, mostly for it's inclusion of the film within the film, and the theater as a kind of demonic temple. The special effects are terrible and the acting worse.

In the end Demons is a better idea for a film, than a film itself, but still fun for dedicated genre fans. Dario Argento presents this madcap no holds barred zomibe/demon party and send up to the fun of going out to watch bad horror movies.

One of the coolest and most entertaining Italian shockers ever! This Dario Argento produced film is quite an original one and directed by Lamberto Bava has a movie theater that was built on a burial ground as it unleashes demons.

Very gory, exciting and action packed! not for the weak stomached though.

Somewhat above average Italian splatter flick with a kind of Return of the Living Dead feel. Some startling moments and some cool gore. Great theme music, too.

Hilarious demon action with no script and no actors! One of the most unintentionally funny movies EVER!

Considered a classic "Italian horror/gorefest/giallo" and for good reasons. I like the story concept, the scares are definitely there with great makeup and tense action scenes. My problem with it is that it sometimes seems a mash between Lomberto Bava's vision and Dario Argento's style. That said, Argento's presence seems to inject an edge on the films he produced in this period, the key example being Zombi Dawn of the Dead. Definite must watch for horror fans.

An acquired taste in foreign horror films. The demon transition is gross. The acting borderline, and the English voice-overs almost silly. I like the film, even with the last minute twist, and the hero George, played by Urbano Barberini, could easily have been Dolph Lundgren's long lost, attractive brother. I don't usually recommend foreign horror, but it's a good B-movie.

My favorite thing in the world is the invariably furious black gentleman in the white lesiure suit. Fantastic.

Other than that, awesome sfx and although the ending is fairly ridiculous and kinda laughable, it's still a lot of fun to watch.

I've been somehow fascinated by the continuous mise-en-abîme diplayed althrough this movie. Wes Craven by the way, completely ripped off entire scenes for his Scream movie. Anyway, a damn lot of quite efficient gore scene are here presented with vivid details. Yet, this all appears extremely dated today. Too bad, really.

First thing I want to comment about this movie is it's awesome soundtrack, filled with 80s heavy metal classics. When the motorcycle/samurai sword scene came with "Killers" by "Claudio Simonetti playing in the background, I got goosebumps. Unfortunately I watched the english dubbed version, something I usually don't do. Acting sucked like hell, like they are supposed to do in an 80s horror, and you get all your typical thrills, chills and kills. Overall a decent flick, that is perhaps worthy of it's cult status, but when seen for the first time today, not up to standards.

I had seen Demons 2 before I got my hands on this, and I was pleased that it wasn't as boring as Demons 2. More gore, less stinking approach to body horror, better setting, less random, and off course; the kick-ass "motorcycle plus samurai sword" combination! The ending was a surprise, and well, it makes Demons 2 even more stupid. If you're not after some deep, masterfully display of horror, Demons is a fun ride of random deaths and green saliva.

One of the only movies I can remember freaking the hell out of me. I don't think you can call your self a horror fan if you haven't seen this one. The idea of people getting possessed by demons is one of the scariest things because its more likely to happen unlike lets say a man name Freddy is killing people in there dreams. Go see this movie if you haven't its amazing.(?)

80's horror at its best. This is a Italian/German co-production about a demon curse that strikes a movie theater during a mysterious Free Screening of a new horrible movie.

I had the fortune of seeing this in a theater very similar to the one in the movie! YES! :D

EDIT: Saw it AGAIN in a theater, same print, still just as awesome. Totally forgot how much fucking FUN this movie is. It's like a self-aware bad-ass awesome movie, even though it knows it's using cliches and has some intentional gags on those cliches. (especially the characters) This is a movie to have fun with. Do so! :)

bizzare foreign (italian) film set around a movie theatre... what happens on the screen becomes reality. everything gets kind of confusing halfway through, but it's still fun to watch.

Pure insanity. Plenty of gore, creative kills, a broader scope then you'd expect and lots of terrible dunning. Bava, in the midst of all sorts of hoopla, also inserts some rather sneaky commentary on the nature of cinemas and cinema-goers.

Good gory fun. Wow - very good movie. I saw a lot of elements of future movies that could have been inspired by this '80's gem. Awesome soundtrack and I'm not much of a fan of '80's metal. Springfield and Idol brought it though.
