Although the plot wasn't bad, there were scenes that were so cliché. And some of the gun scenes were quite bad, in my opinion. But it is a movie from 1995, one that made those scenes cliché, so I won't penalize it much =P Antonio Banderas was perfect for the role and Salma Hayek too. They make a good couple^^
"Desperado" shows what Robert Rodriguez can do with a little money and some good actors. However, this film is not as unique as the original, "El Mariachi", and in the end turns into just another action film. It's an action film with cool moments, but that's it.
An all-time cinematic masterpiece, well written and Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek have good chemistry, but above all that this movie has action scenes any action junkie will greatly appreciate!
A wild and funny actioner with great set-pieces. Antonio and Salma are great but Buscemi and QT were hilarious. RR's directing has a similar style to his mate QT's and so it's a fantastic result. The opening sequence is brilliant.
In this movie you got it all! It´s funny, sad, exciting and you got the lovestory as well. Antonio is practically shining in his role as El Mariachi. I love this movie!
Antonio Banderas... yum, yum. The man can read the dictionary and make it sound HOT!!!! Seriously, this is an excellent action packed movie and great sequel to Rodriguez' El Mariachi.
Campy, yes, but sexy as hell! Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek are almost too beautiful to bear on their own, but as a couple on the run in this flick, they reduced me to a sensation of total unworthiness. Watch their love scene and tell me you don't feel the same...
The movie didn't have anything in particular that stood out as being great but what i did have was a bit of everything; from action to romance and even some good comedy, it is a really cool film that i think anyone can enjoy with Antonio Banderas giving a very likeable performance and Salma Hayek was stunnning go on just give it a go.
Not as good as Once Upon a time in Mexico (No Depp) and not as good as EL Mariarchi which was the low budget original. Good points Tarantino, Hayek. This movie is a little too cheesey in the action though as sometimes Banderas stands still and no one can shoot him.
Some good action but there's far too much casual slaughter here that smacks strongly of Tarantino influence. Far too much stylistic overkill (slow motion etc) and sadistic violence.
Buscemi: He was dark too. I don't mean dark-skinned. No, this was different. It was if he was always walking in a shadow. I mean every step he took toward the light, just when you thought his face was about to be revealed... it wasn't. It was as if the lights dimmed, just for him.
The best of the Mariachi trilogy, and its all kinds of awesome. The movie plays like a mythic legend, elevating the El Mariachi character to a fantasy hero almost.
The DVD cover describes it as a south of the border Pulp Fiction, and that's just about right. The action is fun and exciting.
Antonio Banderas is in full blown awesome mode and looks great while kicking ass. Salma Hayek is...well extremely Hot, her intro literally causes a car crash. And then Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino even steps in for a bit.
This time, the story revolves around the Mariachi, wielding the guitar case full of weapons, on a task of taking out the drug cartel's in Mexico in order to make his way to one of the head lords, Bucho, played by Joaquim de Almeida. It helps that Bucho is not just a one-note villain either. He has a sort of edge combined with his sense in handling his business.
This movie also introduced people to Danny Trejo. You know him, he is the big Mexican with a well carved face, dark skin, a grizzled voice, and a large tattoo of a woman on his chest. Cool is an easy word right there.
Having an even larger budget this time around, Rodriguez shows once again that he knows how to handle action sequences. Mixed with a great soundtrack by Los Lobos, the action is great to watch.
The story is well handled too, showing both hero and villain as well as giving us a fun relationship between Banderas and Hayek.
A great movie to enjoy again and again.
Priest: Would you like confession? El Mariachi: Maybe later Father, cause where I'm going I would just have to come straight back.
Antonio Banderas takes over the El Mariachi role in this movie, and does it perfectly. The action scenes are just so cool and entertaining - especially the bar shootout. This movie has some of the best actions scenes of all time. Every action fan must see this movie.
I find this film kinda ridiculous. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the action bits and the Rodriguez humor, but the movie as a whole just didn't do it for me. Plus, Salma Hayek? Yecch!
One of my favorite action movies ever! Plus it's close to my heart because I'm Mexican. This is the movie that deservingly put Robert Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, and Salma Hayek on the map. Rent it!
With this sequel to his prize-winning independent previous film, "El Mariachi," director Robert Rodriquez joins the ranks of Sam Peckinpah and John Woo as a master of slick, glamorized ultra-violence. We pick up the story as a continuation of "El Mariachi," where an itinerant musician, looking for work, gets mistaken for a hitman and thereby entangled in a web of love, corruption, and death. This time, he is out to avenge the murder of his lover and the maiming of his fretting hand, which occurred at the end of the earlier movie. However, the plot is recapitulated, and again, a case of mistaken identity leads to a very high body count, involvement with a beautiful woman who works for the local drug lord, and finally, the inevitable face-to-face confrontation and bloody showdown.
