Critic Reviews

  • Trevor Johnston, Time Out

This ultra-mild frolic follows the 'fish-out-of-water' comedy formula so closely its lack of surprise is almost, well, surprising.

  • Joshua Rothkopf, Time Out New York

One of those cookie-cutter romantic comedies in which fish out of water ("Which one's skim?" Parker asks while milking cows) learn to swim together again.

  • Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine

The movie is like a car wreck in which no one is injured but the onlookers.

  • A.O. Scott, At the Movies

There's a scene where Hugh Grant confronts a grizzly bear and I've never rooted so hard for a predatory mammal.

  • Kyle Smith, New York Post

The cast is in such fine form that everything seems funny.

Hugh Grant always picks the same type of roles as the bumbling Englishman. His estranged wife (SJP) and him witness a murder and have to go into witness protection together. Leaving their busy lives in New York for Wyoming. Predictable but enjoyable rom com. Good cast.

Brilliantly hillarious. I can't think of any other film in recent years that actually made me laugh so hard. SJP and Hugh Grant made a great on-and-off couple and I actually admire the script writer, whoever he or she is, since it is absolutely GENIUS! The film is a combination… More

Boring, bad acting, and not funny

So cute. I love Hugh Grant. He's charming in a quirky kind of way. It's a nice little break-up-get-back-together movie.
