Die Another Day

Colin Salmon, Emilio Echevarría, Halle Berry, John Cleese, Judi Dench

A high-speed hovercraft chase, through a minefield in the demilitarized zone separating North and South Korea, marks the beginning of James Bond (Agent 007) embarking on his latest mission. From Hong ...( read more  read more... )Kong, to Cuba to London, Bond circles the world in his quest to unmask a traitor, and prevent a war of catastrophic proportions. On his way, he crosses paths with the beautiful Jinx and Miranda Frost, who become further entwined in his latest adventure. Hot on the trail of deadly megalomaniac, Gustav Graves and his ruthless right-hand man Zoo, Bond travels to Iceland into the villain's lair: a palace built entirely of ice. There he experiences, firsthand, the power of a high-tech weapon. Ultimately, this leads to an explosive confrontation back in Korea, where the mission began.

Died on its arse. The worst Bond film to date!

James Bond movies are supposed to be over the top fare with gadgets and such that are unbelievable. Die Another Day makes the cardinal mistake of throwing too much into itself. The plot involves Bond (Pierce Brosnan) going after a diamond miner/publicity hunter who may have ties ...( read more)to the North Korean military.

By this film it seems as though Brosnan has tired of the role. It's paint by numbers time it seems as he goes through the motions of another 007 caper. Halle Berry looks even more bored than Brosnan in the film offering what at first seems like a large role, but turns out to be more of a nuisance.

Invisible cars, DNA transplants, Bond stopping his heart, and a weapon borrowed straight out of Goldeneye make this a very dull film indeed. And Madonna probably has the worst cameo in film history.

Theme song wasn't that bad. Overall it was pretty good other than the whole ice thing and invisable car.

You know some Bond fans are crazy when they prefer this abomination over Casino Royale.

"Events don't get any bigger than..."

Pierce Brosnan makes his fourth appearance as suave super-spy James Bond in this espionage thriller, the 20th film in the official Bond series. While on assignment in North Korea, Bond is captured by government agents, where he's impr...( read more)isoned and tortured for over a year. When Bond finally wins his freedom, not everyone is certain 007 is still capable of doing the job, but after Zao (Rick Yune), the North Korean operative who snared Bond, is discovered to be in cahoots with unscrupulous entrepreneur Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens), Bond is back on the case, and he finds the two men have sinister plans which could decide the fate of the world. As Bond hops from England to Cuba to Korea to Iceland in pursuit of his quarry, he (as usual) makes the acquaintance of two beautiful and mysterious women, Jinx (Halle Berry) and Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike).

I liked that Die Another Day was like a love letter to Bond films: it has silly action and a "golden gun" like from the Roger Moore days, solid punches, potential laser dismemberment, and an Aston Martin from Connery, many interesting elements...but ultimately not very interesting. And why doesn't Bond remember events from past films like when he smelled Klebbs' shoe like he didn't know why it was dangerous (poison?) It's like there's a vat of Bonds being grown somewhere and each one is given just enough info to continue as the next Bond. Die Another Day packs much into it, but was spread a little too thin.

Slightly better than Brosnan's last 2 movies as Bond but only just. After Goldeneye the franchise went downhill fast. Thankfully this was to be Brosnan's final outing as Bond and about time to have a complete rethink about the direction of the franchise.

Pierce Brosnan ended on a bad note with this installment. It doesn't have the feel as the other Bond movies and therefore doesn't capture the overall excitement of watching James Bond.
