based on a great book about WW2 , as a film is a masterpiece ...a boy who refuses to grow up ..the very sweet character of a salesman played by Charles Aznavour who sells toys and sometime is disappeared as JEW , gives a quote in the boy ..." Her Markous left , and with him gone all the toys of the world "

In this film, everything is distorted, twisted or dirty. It doesn't take much effort to realise that the distortion in the film represents the deformity that was seizing Europe by the throat. Still, knowing that doesn't make this film any more pleasant to watch. There are a few redeeming moments, but hardly enough to justify the nastiness of the characters. I'd give it a pass.

This film really disturbs me, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a masterful and unforgetable piece of work.

I didn't get this. But I liked the sex scene in the beginning and the horses head that spoiled the sex scene in the middle. (Shoulder shrug)

Wow what can i say about this movie that wouldn't make your head spin. The story itself is very detailed and elaborate and not to mention highly original. Set during war times in Nazi Germany the movie tells the story of a young boy who throws himself down some stairs to stunt his groth in order to not get older. OK so right there your like wtf, and i agree watching it you feel the same way, none the less the movie is very well done and the young man who played the boy did a fantastic job. Worth checking out for a foreign movie and for something out of the ordinary. As a note make sure you get the Criterion dvd as it is the full uncut version and the best looking of all dvd's

Brilliant anti-war film with an element of fantasy, featuring a startling leading performance from the man who went on to be the weird elf dude in LEGEND.

I can't get those disturbing scenes out of my head. The eels inside a horses decapitated head. Street kids forcing Oskar to drink a pee soup. Oskar wanting to kill his son. Blech, gross. And I was up to here with that stupid boys yelling. *Shudders* There were some humorous scenes though...

Idiosyncrasy at its most absorbing. There's no plot; just Nazi Germany through the eyes of a creeprecocious kid who wills himself to physically stop growing at age 3 and can break glass with his screams. He also punches a chick in the vajayjay. (Look at the poster if you don't understand how creepy he is yet.)
