  Disney returns to the classic fairy tales with this computer animated adventure that is still far from old-fashioned. While the basics of most Disney classics (animal sidekicks, songs, evil stepmothers) are there, the storytelling is much more action-packed and influenced by somewhat more subversive films like Shrek. The animation is, of course, gorgeous and flawless, maybe even a bit too flawless. There may be a few songs too many, but there is still plenty of movie magic to behold. A really satisfying and lovable adventure for young and old.

  Though beautiful to look at and featuring some pleasant music, Tangled really does not hold a candle to any previous Disney film. The characters, though well-developed, are not strong enough to support the already weak and cliche story.

  Since we entered the 21st century, there haven't been any great Disney films. However, 'Tangled', I thought, although it may not top Disney classics, it does deserve a place amongst Disney's finest. Along with surpassing all Disney films within the last decade, 'Tangled' is a lot of fun. While returning to original Disney traditions, it is a recommendation to all Disney fans and kids. It features the best princess since 'Cinderella'. It contains, not as iconic, but the best songs since 'Beauty and the Beast'. Finally, with visuals that are as stunning as 'Toy Story'.

  Visually stunning and with enough sly moments to cover up a truly by the numbers fairy tale, Tangled offers viewers young and old enough to entertain. The musical numbers (as with most Disney films) didn't really do it for me, although I will admit to being entertained by the rowdy boys singing the I've Got a Dream thing. I also admit that I am not familiar with Rapunzel's story (other than some vague recollections of a girl being locked in a tower and being saved by a knight who climbs up her golden hair to rescue her), so I don't really know what liberties John Lassiter and co. took in the writing of the screenplay. Suffice to say, Rapunzel speaks in an almost 90's Valley Girl speak, so some form of updating of the source material is indeed in evidence. My only real problem with the film is that, in spite of the more modern sensibilities of the film, it remains couched in every single fairy tale cliché imaginable - and almost screams "This Is Disney". Perhaps that isn't a bad thing, as there is a truly beautiful and magical... dare I say "Disney" moment, when the two main characters are adrift in a small boat as lanterns drift all around them - but I couldn't help but feel that the story line was constrained by its fairy tale which is unfortunate, for there is certainly some creativity on display here, including a hilarious duel between the hero Flynn, armed with a frying pan (an ongoing joke in the film) and the sheriff's horse Maximus, who wields a sword in his teeth! Truly, it's some of the peripheral characters, like Maximus and Rapunzel's pet chameleon who give the film some sparkle and are far more interesting than the main characters in my opinion. As with all fairy tales, I have issues with the over simplification of things; the black or white of it if you may. That and the obvious boy meets girl and perforce falls in love bit that is the foundation of all tales. Oh, and here's a little PC moment that I felt was ridiculous: At the time when we meet Rapunzel, she is days away from her 18th birthday... how convenient and very legal of you - though her body drawing and her manner of speaking would make her out to be 14 or 15 tops - I know it's a small thing, but so much change happens between a 14 and 18 year old girl ... and I found the pronouncement of her advanced years to jarringly not fit what I was hearing and seeing on screen. In conclusion; a solid bit of animation that stands up to the classic Disney films of yore. If you're in the mood for sweet, simplistic tales with a bit of good natured humor thrown in, then dive in and you won't be disappointed - if you're looking for anything deeper - well, you should have known better.

  It's no secret that I'm a bit anti-Disney but I was pleasantly surprised with Tangled. It was recommended by people who generally don't let me down so I gave it a go. They've bought in fresh blood and have upped the animation, yeah sure they've re-invented a classic once again but this time they've done it without all the Disney cliches. This film was actually genuinely funny too, without the samey slapstick and talking animals. I haven't enjoyed a Disney film since Jungle Book, maybe this is there second coming? Just ease up on the unnecessary sequels though.

  It seems like every single animated movie is going through the familiar, no-risk plotlines nowadays, but Tangled does it with genuinely funny events and memorable characters. Enjoyed it.

  Bravo, Walt Disney Pictures, Bravo! #5 on my Animated Films list...truly a wonderful movie. Disney's 2nd best to only Beauty and the Beast! The music is lovely and reminded me of everything I loved about Disney as a kid! It's that good people, don't miss it!

  Witty montages and dialogue made me laugh out loud, characters were charming and the dependably happy "true love conquers all" Disney ending was exactly what I needed this week. But I do remember the original Grimm fairy tale being much darker and I'm pretty sure Rapunzel's parents were not royalty. There was something involving her pregnant mother craving parsnips or something... Oddly enough, the Disney version makes more sense. Good work.

  One of the best Disney movies I've seen in a long time. The graphics are brilliant. They look life like. Rapunzel has been trapped in a tower all her life, to protect her magical hair. She longs for adventure and finds it in an unlikely match - a thief whom she bribes into taking her to see the flying lanterns on her 18th birthday. Funny and heart warming. Good music and graphics. My fave scene is the lanterns on the lake.

  Flynn Rider: Did I ever tell you I've got a thing for brunettes?  "Get tangled up" When I first heard about Tangled; I didn't think it would be for me. But after hearing that it was good from a lot of people who at one time didn't think they would like it; I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. It's a cute and funny little movie. It may have a little too much singing for my taste, but that's okay. The film has beautiful animation and great storytelling. It's surprisingly fun and ends up being an easy to like watch. Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy were all very good with their characters.  Tangled is an entertaining children's movie and I can say I was never bored once during the whole movie. Which I can't say about too many movies made for kids. This one is in a very select list of movies for kids that I could see myself watching again in the future.

  Beautiful animation and comedy make a solid plot, I loved it. It has every right step for a animated movie. The music was good, not perfect, but still pretty good. You are an idiot if you didnt enjoy this. Its funny and its for all ages, expect for bad movie lovers.

My Thoughts: "I never really loved the "princess" stories when I was younger. I was more of a 'Jungle Book' or 'Tarzan' kind of gal. I did however enjoy 'Snow White'. I also fully loved this film. It had it all. Great animation, fun characters, great story, and beautiful colors made this a complete enjoyment for not only the children but for us big kids too. We laughed throughout the entirety of the film. A great family film.

  What a delightful film. The thing I found most striking was the villain: Mother Gothel is not a wicked witch; she's just a very bad person. And she's evil in the way real people are evil: she's passive-aggressive, manipulative, clingy, condescending, insecure and belittling. Her mannerisms ring totally true, and it's easy to believe that a character like that would represent a threat to the main character. The timing in the animation made me laugh as hard as the original Chuck Jones cartoons did, and the story is novel, well-written, well-told and is beautifully rendered. Disney continues with its mute, anthropomorphic horse with attitude trope with Maximus, the most anatomically faithful rendering of an equine character yet. It's also very funny the passionate dislike he has for Flynn Rider, but I found it alarming when they fought. If a horse was snapping at you or trying to stomp you, you'd lose a hand. Likewise the treatment of frying pans: you can fuck someone RIGHT up with a frying pan. I also found that some of Rapunzel's songs dragged, but others were so much fun that she is easily forgiven. The lantern scene in particular is spellbinding, and I found myself liking every single character in this movie. Even Flynn, despite myself, the really rather degenerate thief that looks like Jared Padalecki. This movie did a lot of cool and interesting things with its story, which was priginally much simpler than it is here. I am very glad I bought this.

  I had high expectations because of the reviews, but I thought it was a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it WAS cute, but it was rather unremarkable and just followed the same old princess formula.

  Not only does it truly adapt Disney's lively 2D animated style into 3D but this is as good as a "Princess" movie is going to get if you release it in this day and age. Chalk full of charm, personality and witty humor, this movie is far more entertaining than any snorefest "classic" fairytale from Disney's vaults of cliche and formula. Sure, it doesn't resonate like previous princess epics but honestly, who wants to see that bullshit again? Also, Maximus easily steals the show.

  Marking Disney's 50th animation, as well as its first ever CGI fairy tale, <i>Tangled</i> updates the best of Disney's hand-drawn traditional animation style - including its flair for fusing action and song - and adds an contemporary, zesty attitude that's perfect for the digital age. While the impressive 3D animation gives volume to the tale's action and magic, <i>Tangled</i> relies on physical comedy and character traits to be entertaining. With a knack for vocal performance, Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy have no trouble belting out tunes with emotion - even if lyrics can be trite and not very catchy - and making their characters likable.

  Cute throwback to the old Disney fairytale cartoons. They really don't make cartoons like this anymore. Princesses, spells, crazy animals, and songs that will probably get stuck in my head in a few days. Sure it's a little girly(hey I have a feminine side), but it reminded me of movies from my childhood. This sits right beside "Beauty and the Beast" and "Little Mermaid" as perfectly enjoyable family entertainment. I'm sure one day me and my boy will sit down and watch it, and afterward he'll probably say "ok dad, now lets watch something where stuff blows up", but I know my nieces will love it:-)
