Dissolution
Loosely inspired by Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, Menkes's most recent film combines an almost surreal fairy-tale energy with brutal black-and-white realism to explore the condition of violence that permeates contemporary Israeli society. Shot in Yafo (the predominantly Arab area of Tel Aviv), the movie follows the moral collapse and first glimmer of redemption, of a young, morose Israeli Jew, played brilliantly by Didi Fire. -- (C) Anthology

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Here, dreams and reality rub shoulders, and redemption seems as distant as peace itself."
‑ Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times
"You'd swear Menkes were remaking Frownland in the Holy Land instead of tweaking a literary totem."
‑ David Fear, Time Out New York
"Nina Menkes's camera is at its most effective when it seems dumbfounded at what it's indexing."
‑ Joseph Jon Lanthier, Slant Magazine
