Romantic, funny. I love River Pheonix in this film....one of my favorites. It's a very cute love story and heartbreaking war film. Anyone who likes love stories would love this movie.

Dogfight is a movie that I truly adore. I have seen this film over and over. What can I say, I was heavily infatuated with River Phoenix back in the day.
Dogfight is the story of the night, in 1963, before Pvt. Eddie Birdlace and his buddies leave for Vietnam. It's a film about ...( read more)how both cruel and compassionate the human heart can be.
River Phoenix is great, as Birdlace. He was a gifted actor, and he brought a sympathetic understanding to the role. I thought Lili Taylor was very bright, as Rose. She is a beautiful, understated actress. Yet, she managed to give Rose the bumbling, awkward qualities that were pivotal to the plot.
This movie really knows how to tug at the strings of raw human emotion. Dogfight is genuinely a great film about the relationships we build through out our lives, and the effects they have on us.

Cute and charming romantic story with a heartwarming ending, but forgettable after a couple of days.

Description: In 1963, the night before the 18 years old "Birdlace" Eddie and his friends are shipped to Vietnam, they play a cruel game called 'Dogfight': all of them seek a woman for a party, and who finds the most ugly one, wins a prize. Eddie finds the lonesome pacifist Rose w...( read more)orking in a coffee shop. She's happy to accompany him - but then she sees through the game and is devastated by his cruelty. But war can humble a man, and sometimes love is found in the most unexpected places, or people. My review:A truly wonderful..wonderful film. After Stand by me, I was a River fan and he shone again in this role but the true gem here is Lili Taylor. Her character is so sweet, endearing and vulnerable but beneath all that she had gumption. This is the kind of movie where the more you watch, the more it captivates you thanks to a good script by Bob Comfort.

This was actually a sweet little love story. I was pleasantly surprised, by how much I enjoyed it. It showed the "promise" of the wonderful actor, that River Phoenix would become, and how great he already was.
