Dogma Reviews and Ratings

Great casting, as the acting was great in the movie. Cept the main character, Linda Fiorentino. She had her moments but was mostly weak.

El tipo de peliculas que se burla de todo sin llegar a ser estúpida. La historia está buena, tiene sus partes graciosas, y cuenta con un muy buen reparto.

I give these people points for throwing all sense of reality out the window when they made this movie.

The best thing about it was that you couldn't predict anything because nothing worked on the same rules and principles as in 'the real world'. Yet it was still intelligent an...( read more)d very entertaining.

Loved every bizzare moment in this strange story.

It was however dissapointing to actually see 'God' herself, this movie would have benifited leaving it to the imagination.

An abortion clinic worker with a special heritage is enlisted to prevent two angels from reentering Heaven and thus undoing the fabric of the universe. Along the way, she is aided by two prophets, Jay and Silent Bob. With the help of Rufus, the 13th Apostle, they must stop those ...( read more)who stand in their way and prevent the angels from entering Heaven.

This is the second time I got myself immersed in the world of writer/director Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse (the first one being Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back) and in my opinion it got a whole lot better the second time around. Jay and Silent Bob was funny but in the weirdest of ways. It seemed like they were just resorting to Jay's cussing and bad mouthing to make the audience laugh. But the toilet humor can be funny on a certain extent. It can't work all the time that's why I'm in the middle when it comes to Jay and Silent Bob.

But that is not the case here, Dogma on the other hand, had all the perfect laughs and offending humor with perfect timing. Even at the start of the film, I mean the very start with the disclaimer, oh man that was hilarious with Kevin Smith's fetish for platypuses and the aforementioned warning with the offensive tone of the film. Kevin Smith is a writing genius no questions asked. He knew his film would be torched by religious sects and fanatics so before they even got to it, he made his move with the disclaimer.

The funniest scene has got to be the part where a naked Chris Rock just fell out of nowhere and then Jay says "Beautiful, naked, big-titted women just don't fall out of the sky, you know" oh man that was classic. But that's not all, almost every scene with the dynamic duo was a blast and Chris Rock's too.

    Therefore, I give Dogma a 4.5/5

  • August 16, 2008
This was pretty funny in some places. The main character though, Bethany, was annoying. I liked that George Carlin was in it... and was a religious guy... that was funny. I didn't like how sometimes they would be talking about boring religious stuff for a bit too long though.....( read more). That was boring.

It was pretty funny in some places though. I didn't like God either. She was annoying.

SO incredibly funny, as always Kevin Smith does a great job in developing characters, an unusual but new and different storyline that's just so incredibly funny good luck trying to catch your breath!

Dogma is arguably Kevin Smith's best movie to date. The storyline, as silly as it is, does raise a few interesting questions at religion in general. But overall its a Kevin Smith movie, expect gags and long talky scenes, however brilliant to watch.

There was a time when I thought Kevin Smith movies were funny - well written, cynically snappy, and ahead of their time. I realize now that I was drunk during this time. This movie is tripe.
