Horror maestro Stuart Gordon works his magic once again in DOLLS, a clever horror film that combines chills, frights, and laughs in ample doses. The plot revolves around one little girl (Carrie Lorrai...( read more  read more... )ne) who is trapped in an old mansion with her nasty parents. The mansion is owned by an old toymaker who has a vast collection of dolls he crafted over the years. The dolls look harmless enough, but nothing could be further from the truth. As the night passes, terrible things begin to happen, and it soon becomes clear that the dolls are responsible. Filled with plenty of great special effects, good acting, and clever writing, DOLLS is an effective exercise in horror. Like its sister film PUPPET MASTER, DOLLS manages to make cute, seemingly inanimate dolls menacing and scary. Lorraine is wonderul as the nice little girl with the evil stepmother and weak father who has her own fantasies about dolls enacting their revenge on bad people. Once again Gordon creates a fun tale with his exacting blend of horror and laughs.

    Dolls came out around the time in which killer doll movies were extremely hot. Dolls appeared in 1987, one whole year before Childs Play did in 1988. After that in 1989 the Puppet Master series from Full Moon began. Dolls is a worthy addition to this list of killer doll movies be...( read more)cause even though it is a low budget production, it doesn't feel like it. First off we get a real nice setting, perfect for this sort of horror film. We get a nice storm that never stops. We get the thunder and the lightning through out 90% of the film and we get a huge mansion with dark hallways filled with antiques. To top all that we also get two kooky and weird old folks who are the owners of the mansion and also happen to be doll makers. So as you can see, we get a nice setting for a spooky old fashion film, which in my opinion Dolls is. An old fashion dark fairy tale. The special effects are pretty good. Its a mixture between stop motion animation and the use of puppets. The dolls end up looking really creepy.

    Dolls! A great adult horror fantasy movie for those who still have a child living inside them - and a need to see some gore. I enjoyed this fantastic film a lot! A little girl named Judy travels the English countryside with her father and step-mother Rosemary. Their car breaks do...( read more)wn on a rainy night and they find shelter in a huge antique mansion where an old toymaker and his wife live with their collection of antique dolls. Soon a goofy American tourist and two punk rocker girls drop in from the storm. Once everybody is tucked in for the night, the dolls come to life and pay visit to the guests of the house... These walking toys will only hurt those who disrespect them or their masters. Great musical score and well-done stop motion animation effects for the creepy antique dolls. I love this quality horror film.

    Well it's not very logical, even when you forgive the fact that dolls are coming alive and killing people. But goddamn it! It really is fun as hell in that great 80s horror kind of way.
    It's interesting too how the film begins with you cheering for the dolls, but then your side c...( read more)hanges when they attack and kill the best character in the film, who also fittingly has the best death scene.
    If you like this kind of stuff, you'll love this, if you don't, don't even check this out.

    Killer porcelain dolls. I'm there!!! (Saw this as a kid and, sadly, can't recall a thing. Will have to remedy that!)
