I really liked this film. I think I first saw it when I was about 8 years old so .. being a Johnny depp, Al Pacino film, I didnt quite get some of the plot. I really can't say anything, anything I say , I've just given away the whole film. I would say any Johnny lover or Al Pacino fan would do well with watching it, although I would say some wouldn't like it. If you're in for a thrill ( I suppose, to put a word to it) try it.

Pacino's best performance since Glengarry. Tremendous chemsitry between Depp and Al, every character is as important as the next. Great look into the world of the low level mafia, at least in the most humane way.

Donnie Brasco stars Al Pacino once again ( should be one of the best movie actors ) and also Johnny Depp. Donnie Brasco is a classic within itself and it shows what life is really like in the mob. based on a true story.

Oh...my...gosh! I didn't think it was humanly possible, but after the couple minutes of this movie, I didn't even notice Johnny was in this! I was so into the movie, I didn't care who was who, I just wanted to watch it!!

This movie can REALLY tell a story. I was confused at first, I was thinking: Does Joe/Donnie have a secret life, that he's hiding from his wife? It turns out, no, he didn't. He was just an undercover FBI agent, who, by the ending, really DID have a secret life. I think it had the most grossest bloody[as in gory, not as in pirate language] part I've ever seen: taking out body organs from bodies. *shivers*

I would say this movie was really good, and I can't wait until I find the book this movie was based on. ^_^

This movie is what I would call a masterpiece! A movie for all generations of people. True you would definatly have to be 17 if you have a weak stomach or delicate ears. I'm warning you there is more than it's share of swearing and blood. But after you get past the reasons it's "R" it is a touching story of a man Joe Pistone/ Donnie Brasco (DEPP) who goes undercover into the mob and finds out how much trouble and pain the mob causes it's participants and those who happen to get in the way or even next to it. Al Pacino did a heart breaking preformance and left you begging for more! The Cinamatography was brilliant, esp. the typewriter views and the camera views (with the click and close of the lens) The director Mike Newell knew what he was doing when he directed this true story about a man who started to lose everything when he found something.

If you're interested in crime stories, this one is a must see. The fact that it's based on a true story (like Goodfellas and Casino) makes it all more interesting.

This is one awesome film. The acting in this film was absolutely superb from Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. Performances that I think should have had Oscar nominations. The tension in the film is very good and so is the general plot of the film. This film is similar to Martin Scorseses The Departed because of the undercover cop who becomes like best friends with the crook and then attempts to bring the town crook down and send him to jail. Not one of Johnny Depps best films but certainly a great performance from him.

Al Pacino in the mob, but this time, on the opposite side of the heirarchy. A low-level aging hitman who can't get no respect. One of the few times Al gets to expand his acting muscles as opposed to just flexing 'em with a loud performance, which, though he's good at, has sorta become his standard.
For me, a great gangster movie isn't just about "wacking" people. It's when it shows the inner-most details of how the mob works. This one goes towards the very lowest part of the totem & shows us how the "cogs" grind thru a living in hopes of someday climbing that mafia ladder.

    Great movie.
Watch the documentary on it if you can.
Depp was snubbed put of an Emmy for this flick.

This movie has one of my favorite Al Pacino performances. It's especially noteworthy because he's not shouting throughout the movie the way he normally does. Depp is also strong and the movie is appropriately tense.

Depp and Pacino drive this gritty, crime theme drama based on the true character Donnie Brasco. Intriguing throughout, this taut thriller is backed by a fine cast including Bruno Kirby and Paul Giamatti. Will hold view interest till the very end...recommended!

Donnie Brasco is one of the best gangster genre movie out there, if you havent seen it you should go see it now! Al Pacino and Johnny Depp give great performances, Depp does too much aimed at a younger audience nowadays but this proves he can do grit in a more adult role. Pacino is great in a lower role to his usual characters a lot more down trodden than usual.

Well done variation of the same old story (a cop sacrificing his family life in the name of the cause), betrayals and hurt ambitions; based on real people and real, six years undercover op. Great Al playing 'Lefty' Ruggerio is... great (it's a rarity anyway, to see 'Godfather' playing ordinary mob soldier, frustrated and not too bright). Curiosity concerning end credits (attention: sort-of spoiler) - Mafia, forced by FBI, has officially (sic!) canceled contract on special agent Joseph ' Donnie Brasco' Pistone.

Goodfellas from a different angle, and certainly not as good. It provides depth on the emotions and sacrifices the agent made to get close to the mob in an undercover sting. However, I found this movie drawn out and boring as hell. Would probably never watch it again.

I enjoyed this film & I never enjoy gangster films!

I usually fall asleep if they start that Italian thing, "hey yo, yadda, yadda yadd, you talking to me..." I usually switch off at that point & they started that at the beggining of this film, but then I sat through & it got better..... a touching story, an intruiging story, a story worth making a film about!

It misses the 5 stars cos it's about Italian gangsters in America! (I'm not Italian, I'm not American, it's a world away from my world)

A stylish, intriguing, honest and remarkable gangster picture. A riveting crime drama. It's brilliant, stunning and riveting. Al Pacino and Johnny Depp are teriffic. Pacino proves once again why he's one of the greatest that ever lived. Depp gives one of the best performances of his career. Micheal Madsen is brilliant. Director, Mike Newell has crafted a well established and brilliant film. It's the most insightful, hard-hitting, hard-edged and honest gangster movie since Goodfellas.

Donnie Brasco is a decent mob drama starring Johnny Depp as an FBI undercover agent and Al Pacino as the two bit mobster that brings him into the inner circle. The film is your typical mob film with the undercover gent being paranoid about getting caught and the effect it has on his family- you've seen this part before. The only real standout in the film is Al Pacino's character Lefty. Instead of Pacino playing the mob boss, he plays a pathetic stooge who works for what amounts another stooge played by Michael Madsen. These guys are like the minimum wage earners of the New York mafia,. Yeah they drive Cadillacs and Lincolns, but Al Pacino is NOT playing Michael Corleone or Tony Montana in this one. Think of him as a stooge for Luca Brazzi. I found this unpolished version of Pacino's chacter's life in the Mafia to be more interesting than Depp's Pistone family crisis (which is oddly interpreted on screen).
Overall, this is an OK film that shows off the skills of the veteran Pacino and the soon-to-become-superstar Depp.

By far one of the best if not the best mob/gangster movie I have seen. Based on a true story this film is absolutely brilliant.

It tells the true story of Joseph D. Pistone, an FBI agent who goes undercover as Donnie Brasco to find information on an aging hitman 'Lefty' and his gang. The information found out by Joseph was amazing and led to many convictions. But after a while Joseph's professional and personal lives collide, and he becomes more like the mob member he is pretending to be.

The acting was just brilliant. Johnny Depp was amazing, couldn't have been any better. This is yet another film that proves what an amazing actor he is. Al Pacino also acted well, I didn't really like his character though and I haven't seen many of his films, but he was fantastic as well in this film. The others that I can't name them all were great additions to the cast.

The book is supposed to be better than the movie, so I should check that out sometime. But I really, really enjoyed watching this masterpiece, I recommend this to anyone who loves Mob/Gangster movie and of course if you are a fan of Johnny Depp or Al Pacino you should really see this!
