Worst movie so far and by far in 2008. If you've seen excape from new york, excape from L.A., and Gladiator, you've seen doomsday already. And this isn't just a homage like some critics call it, its a complete rip off of those three movies and a couple more I forgot to mention. O...( read more)ne of the most unoriginal ideas yet from some of the music scores to the visuals, and even main plot lines that were copied and inserted into this piece of crap. I'm surprised they didn't suied for this one. Basically change Snake from Excape from New York and L.A. and change it to a female with troops and change the quartened criminals to quartened infected people. The only thing I can say that was good was that the main character was hott, but a movie consists of so much more to make it at least ok, and Doomsday is far from it. Pop some popcorn, rent or buy escape from New York , escape from L.A., and if you can fit other in, rent Gladiator, The Warriors, Mad Max, snd The Road Warrior, but never, I repeat never fall for this crappy catastraphy.

Just what I hoped and expected. But don't let the plot/synopsis fool you even if it, at first glance, resemble of another version of 28 Days/Weeks Later. No, this is something totally different and note that there are no zombies in this movie.
Take one scene, thing or feel...( read more)ing from a bunch of movies like Blade, Alien 1 & 2, Resident Evil 2, Mad Max, Pulp Fiction, Land of the Dead, Escape from New York, The Running Man, Highlander and so on. Add a dash of dark humor and put everything in a blender. And what do you get? You get a movie with slasher scenes and nonstop action from square one to finish.
So to the weaknesses, the story is little too thin and too copycat. Moreover I missed SOME short pauses between all the action so I could "catch my breath". To end up all this... if you want action you will get it!

A decent on-time watch. Not much replay value, but a pretty good film.

I'm defiantly mixed about this movie. looks like a rip off of mad max and twisted metal. But kinda looks neat.
  • February 17, 2009
5/10. I quite enjoyed this film. Not what I expected. Its kind of a cross between Mad Max and Escape from New York. You will enjoy if not taken too seriously.

Another disease zombie looks like it was made from a videogame waste of my time

While I was not really a very big fan of Neil Marshall?s first cult film Dog Soldiers, I found myself intensely enjoying his follow-up, The Descent. After The Descent stumbled at the box office but picked up a fan following, his latest film Doomsday caught a bit of buzz.

As expe...( read more)cted, Doomsday fell somewhere between The Descent and Dog Soldiers in my spectrum of movies. The film tells a familiar story ? a sudden virus infects the human population. In this version, the government has managed to quarantine the virus in Scotland by literally sealing off the country from the rest of the world.

However, 25 years after the quarantine, the virus has popped up again, this time in London. In order to save the world and political face, the Prime Minister sends a band of soldiers over the wall into Scotland to make contact with the survivors and bring back the cure. Leading the charge is Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra), whose mother was abandoned in the hot zone at the height of the quarantine.

Anyone who has seen Marshall?s movies will instantly recognize his style: visceral, bloody and violent. I suppose it?s not unwarranted, but there?s an awful lot of splattering going on. And, in the Dog Soldiers fashion, the film is packed with powerful, explosive action that doesn?t go over the top, but it definitely climbs right up to the precipice.

Like his other films, the story is rather simple. It?s not plot you look for in these movies, but rather the action and the wild ride, and Doomsday delivers that ride extremely well. Still, Doomsday has a bit more to it, paying homage to many different films in and around the genre. In fact, the best way to relate to the film is to follow the patchwork of films it represents.

The most noticeable correlation is to The Road Warrior and 28 Days Later. But Marshall gives a nod to a whole slate of action, sci-fi and horror throughout the film. It begins as 28 Days Later, then moves into an Aliens motif as the military team is decked out in armor and tanks before being attacked.

The film erupts into a war of attrition that takes place over 48 hours. From Aliens, the characters are stripped down and enter a world eerily similar to Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. After a brief jump back into 28 Days Later, the movie takes an unexpected turn into the BBC?s latest Robin Hood series. After all, who wouldn?t take refuge in a castle in Scotland.

After a brief flirt with Gladiator, the movie rolls underground to pick up some love for From Dusk ?Til Dawn, then blasts back on the screen with some Death Proof shots. Finally, things roll out in a Road Warrior smack-down with dashes of Land of the Dead and I Am Legend thrown in for good measure.

While far from perfect, Doomsday can be a blast if you like the action, like the violence, endure the language and like watching Rhona Mitra strut around in tight, black spandex. In fact, Mitra owns the movie throughout, channeling Kate Beckinsale from the Underworld series. It?s no surprise that she?s been tapped to do the third installment of the vampire/werewolf saga.

Sadly, Doomsday wasn?t screened for the press and isn?t enjoying a huge release. It will probably get destroyed by the family-favorite (and great movie in its own right) Horton Hears a Who, leaving Neil Marshall to have to prove himself yet again outside of his die-hard audience.

Though Sci-fi in its content it also seems slasher-ish in presentation. It seems we have found the replacement for leather clad Milla Jovovich as this new generation's action star. Rhona Mitra seems to be getting all these roles that would usually be Milla's... which isn't really a bad thing... Rhona is pretty hot. This movie though is basically a ...( read more)mindless actioner with a gore fetish. I thought the idea was pretty interesting, but the overall result was pretty much average at best.

Film yg aneh, terkesan terlalu dipaksakan unsur2 didalamnya,,, awal sudah bagus sayang dari pertengahan sampai ending terlalu banyak keanehan yg bikin kening berkerut.

I was channel surfing one day and came upon this movie that was set in the future. The year is 2033 and Scotland is under quarantine due to a fatal virus where all are presummed dead. The virus suddenly resurfaces 27 years later in London and an elite group in sent into Scotland ...( read more)to find a cure by any means necessery (sound familiar?) The group is met by a barbaric community full of anger with their minds set on destruction. The movie is jam packed with action which at times seems over the top. It's a good popcorn movie and for fans who like the genre of a post apocalyptic world. It's a story that has obviously been done over and over again but Hollywood always goes for the almighty dollar than originality.

    Interesting, but overly done.

hmm dunno what to think of this one. Yeah sure Rhona Mitra has a sweet ass, and it's worth watching over and over.....but she still kinda strikes me as a good actor in training (maybe it's just me).

It kinda feels like a combination of various films put together to get this one....( read more) Some sort of a modern Mad Max (but NOTHING like it), some Banlieue 13(come on you can use the wall thing on...how many films? til it gets old), and i'm sure i can think of more but i'm sleepy*yawn*.

Overall i'm still a sucker for action packed sci-fi like movies with at least one hot chick that kicks ass, i know it's a cliche already but call me a cliche junkie. I've seen it after Death Race and couldn't help noticing some similarities between them, only a few, but i still like it. It's worth watching once or twice. Anarchy, Mayhem, Slaughter, No rules at all, Some car chases, and at least looks a little like Mad Max (which to me is legend), so why not decide one day to re-live the old days in a modern film that might suit ur tastes.

Very strange. Why is it that all post-apolyptic movies has these punk cultures and what about the medieval parts?

Doomsday was a very confusing and weird movie. However, it's enjoyable to see Rhona kick ass all movie long.

i think giving this film 1 star is generous of me! the reason it gets the 1 star is that the begining was really quite good! and i mean the first 15 minutes. from then on it just went downhill. poor bob hoskins probably thought this was going to be a really good uk movie in the w...( read more)ay 28 days later, the descent, dog soldiers were! terrible movie

This movie is alright, if you like Mad Max/I am Legend movies. There is alot of violence with body parts exploding in to bloody messes. I would suggest renting or watchingit on one of the movie channels if there is nothing else on.
