Doomsday Reviews and Ratings

If your hungry, why don't have a piece of your friend.
  • January 16, 2009
I loved it, and of course Rhona Mitra kicked amazing ass as usual!
  • January 16, 2009
Inspired intentions and great concepts can do little to make this action packed, gore filled, profanity laden movie into something positive.
The idea of quarantining an entire part of a country when it becomes infected with a fatal pandemic and then 35 years later having to turn ...( read more)to the quarantine for help is great, and the possibilities of exploring the different types of regression that societies can go through is the stuff of classics. But this movie is devoid of any character development or hope, and the ending is such a waste it begs the question whether this piece was a waste of time? Really, your ultimate goal and redemption is to go rule a bunch of cannibalistic thugs?
  • January 16, 2009
Seemed a bit too over-the-top to me. As if they decided they needed to gore it up a bit more before releasing it and just added ridiculous violence. And don't take this to mean that I am against violent movies because I'm not. I think that just because a movie is violent does not...( read more) mean its bad. But in this case the violence has no purpose and no meaning and so it gets knocked points for that.

    Great movie love shit splatting
  • January 14, 2009
Excellent! Napaka-scientific ng mga pangyayari! Tsaka super suspense talaga ang mararamdaman mo! Napaka-galing nung bidang babae... Love na love nia yung son nia!
  • January 13, 2009
    Very good sound track.
  • January 13, 2009
Pointless gore and violence plagues this horribly written generic plot. Because of that the acting falls a bit short of below average. It's got that cult horror feel to it. Not my cup of tea.
  • January 12, 2009
gore people burned alive cannibals great acton scenes and the guy soul is crazy you never get lost in the movie virus man what if that happened
  • January 11, 2009
Great, cheesy fun. Though the ending left me a little puzzled.
  • January 11, 2009
WTF WAS UP WITH THE MEDEVIL BULLSHIT!
  • January 11, 2009
    rhona mitra is awesome!
  • January 10, 2009
damn the violence in this movie was crazy exploding heads people gettin cooked alive or eaten my only problem was the midevil part of the movie that was pretty gay
  • January 10, 2009
Not a great movie, but quite fun to watch. A write up I found reads, "28 Days Later" meets "The Road Warrior" and "Escape from New York". It is.
  • January 10, 2009
Una mezcla interesante de Mad Max, Rescate en NY, Time line, 28 dias despues, el bosque.... Espectaculares Rhona Mitra y la vibora Lee-Anne Liebenberg. (7-)
  • January 7, 2009
It will be immediately clear to anyone who has seen "Mad Max" or "28 Days Later" that this film is blatantly ripping them off, both in plot and visual style, along with several other films. Despite this, it is still fun to watch. Neil Marshall's slick technique and bloody unforgi...( read more)ving action sequences, along with Rhona Mitra's sizzling performance help you to forget that this movie is indeed an obvious act of plagiarism. Filmmakers copying each other is certainly nothing new in Hollywood, but perhaps Marshall and his collaborators shouldn't have made it so obvious. If you're willing to overlook this however, a good time is still to be had watching this film. Post-apocalyptic movies are meant to be a more visceral experience than an academic one anyway.
  • January 7, 2009
I knew I shouldn't have seen this, it sucked!
  • January 7, 2009
Bit of a mediocre action flick. Had it's moments, mostly towards the end, but they weren't that great. Aaand, the script was rather dull. However, Rhona Mitra successfully pulls off being an action star.
  • January 6, 2009
The homage was paid to crappy movies and its style was equally crappy but since this film copied, it makes this film worse.
I especially cant believe that someone would pay homage to Mad Max. Those were fucked up and boring as hell.
  • January 5, 2009
"Insanely entertaining and awesome!! Rhona Mitra is so badass, she kicked alot of ass here!! The last 20 minutes though, were ridiculously incredible, better than the last Resident Evil".
  • January 5, 2009
Entertaining at times, and Rohan Mitra is hot.
  • January 4, 2009
Neil Marshall is an entertaining writer-director. "Dog Soldiers" rises above the average military-horror film and "The Descent" is one of the finest horror films I have seen in quite a while. In "Doomsday" he seems to had been given twice the budget of his previous films, but it ...( read more)ends up being half as good as his previous work. The film is really entertaining and some scenes are quite suspenseful, but the plot is developed in so many different ways and it tries to cover so much ground and different locations that it becomes almost a parody of the genre. There are a few cliches, mainly as "homage" to other films, that hurt the film, but after all it is better than the average action movie or maybe it is that I admire Neil Marshall's previous work.
  • January 4, 2009
Kind of like 28 Days Later but less scary and a little more exciting.
  • January 4, 2009
it was a really messed up movie.
  • January 4, 2009
nonsense, but a tattooed face is always cool.
There were so many loop holes in this movie it was ridiculous.
  • January 3, 2009
Looks like a stupid 28 Weeks Later rip-off. I like Rhona Mitra though.
  • January 3, 2009
Doomsday is a great balls-out adventure flick. A cross between Road Warrior and Escape from New York, maybe with an ?Ellen Ripley? thrown in, this movie is enjoyable and entertaining. But come on, why do you go see a post-apocalyptic movie? This movie is pure entertainment, and I...( read more) was impressed with some of the acting, as the villain and characters were well drawn and well acted.
  • January 1, 2009
Tienes buenos elementos como casi todas las películas de este tipo hechas en el Reino Unido, interesante lo de las e corrientes que se toman, pero no es tan bueno como hubiese podido llegar a serlo una verdadera lastima
  • January 1, 2009
This is a real mans film with action and horror but the story line is a little whack and unrealistic
  • December 30, 2008
Basically a not so subtle remake of the road warrior although Rhona Mitra I extremely beautiful and is a pleasure to watch. Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell do a more then adequate job in the film. Well worth watching when it comes to tv on skinemax jan. 3rd.
  • December 16, 2008
Some pretty good comedy moments, but ultimately lacking compared with Dog Soldiers or even to an extent Mad Max.
  • December 15, 2008
This movie takes no prisoners... Even though the whole of Scotland is imprisoned within itself! If you worry about getting bored in a movie... Well, you don't have a chance to in this one... It is phenomenal... I can even let slide that while one faction ends up being cannibalist...( read more)ic punks the other have reverted to medieval times, because this is an action movie tour de force with a hell of a lot of guts (literally!) and well worth a watch!
  • December 15, 2008
This movie was great lots of gore and lots and lots of action. i loved it
  • December 14, 2008
A very awesome mix of red-headed step-child genres, it takes some real balls to even make a movie like this but to also make it a good movie instead of a cheap splatter is nothing short of a miracle. Brutally violent, this film skates on the brink of several tropes and makes it l...( read more)ook good without the cheap popularity-fishing Planet Terror did left, right and center. Rhona Mitra does her greatest role, yet as a totally gorgeous ass-kicking heroine without any pathetic tugging of sympathy strings to make her "more human and likeable".
  • December 13, 2008
Robin Williams becomes a robot who searches for a way to become a man. He develops artifically lungs, skin and eyes etc. so he can experience life as a human would and thankfully never stares at a flower to the rites of spring or asks 'what is...'love'?., but it still gets a bit ...( read more)mawkish.
  • December 11, 2008
What a waste and what a mess. A couple of good action scenes, butnot worth the time.
  • December 11, 2008
Mad Max + Escape form New York = Doomsday
  • December 9, 2008
Set in the future, gruesome and gorey love it
  • December 8, 2008
Ok...this is an action -oriented sci-fi mish-mosh, derivitave of many movies..including Mad Max, Escape from New York, 28 Days Later and Gladiator to name a few..although it lacks originality, in its entirety it does entertain for the most part. Rhona Mitra shines brightest as...( read more) the kickass heroine.....
  • December 8, 2008
This movie sucks! How come an isolated area for more than 25 years still has a beer and gasoline supply. Besides, why the latest fashion-trend in there is punk and kingdom-warrior??? What a heck!
  • December 6, 2008
I don't know what people complained about I thought this movie was pretty good. Sure there are better ones but this was not the worst, not by a long shot. And is there anyone hotter than Rhona Mitra? When is this girl going to be a HUGE star??
  • December 4, 2008
Fun-filled ride going from post-apocalyptic future to medieval Scotland and back again for some Mad Max car battling.
  • December 1, 2008
    Alright so...
This movie was pretty entertaining. Obviously, its filmed as an action, and that's what we get, which is really disappointing because its story has a lot of potential.
It goes from England, with sadistic leaders trying to stop a virus that threatens mankind to Scot...( read more)land, where its evenly divided remainly population either moves forward into post apocalyptic punk status or backwards into old medieval territory. Oh, and the daughter/sister of the leaders of each of those territories is desperately trying to find her place, but disagrees with both.
There's also the possibility of a cure, and the rest of the world turning its back on England/Scotland.
Problem is, is that the story is a lot deeper than the movie makes it out to be. So instead of dwelling on the epic background it could have had, this short film uses each of these settings as pieces for a new action sequence.
    Which, are awesome.
The blood/gore, driving parts, and shoot outs are all very well done. Above par, very little CGI shot action sequences are what the movies about.
Which is cool, and everything, if the story didn't have a lot of potential.
So to me it felt really rushed and jumbled, where it could have played off taking its time and being a bit more dramatic. I hate seeing a good wasted story, so that's why it loses points.
  • December 1, 2008
It was the best film for me this year. Fed my WANT. I just love the leading lady in this one, reminds me of underworld for some reason, then the story.. it was surprising, and I like surprises... Ahh can't say anything more but that it's.. 5/5!
  • November 29, 2008
wow...just wow... I was incredulous this film was made. the writer and director should retire. I gave it a full star's worth for "Escape From New York" styled badness entertainment value - but even then, been there, done that....
  • November 26, 2008
I am a huge fan of Neil Marshall after Dog Soldiers and The Descent so I was looking forward to this big time.
However it isn't as strong as his previous efforts as he tries to cram too many genres and concepts from past movies into teh running time.
The reult is uneven as it wav...( read more)ers from brilliant to boring. One saving grace is Rhona Mitra, the best looking action hero seen for some time.
