Starts out in an interesting way, mixing samurai and fantasy elements. But after we've been introduced to the main characters the film loses its appeal.

The story still remains interesting but the fact that the acting and SFX are poorly done, disturbes me too much for me to enjo...( read more)y this movie. Leaves the story open for a sequel...

Would've worked better as a miniseries on TV but as a feature film it fails.

This film takes parts from all over the world of story telling and myth and makes a wonderful movie! You have parts like an old greek myth, alittle like the bible ( the way the child is found), frankenstine, japanese myth, and a dash of action and comedy. This film is like an o...( read more)ld story teller tale the would be told in the days of old. I wis that more films would capture the feel that this one has.

    Dororo (2007)

Kagemitsu Daigo (Kiichi Nakai) is a high ranking Samurai, hiding away from a losing battle inside of a temple surrounded by statues of 48 demons. He makes a pact with these demons to make him rule over the world. However, the price for this power is his unborn So...( read more)n. The doomed baby is born without arms, legs, eyes, and other parts.

The Samurai leader and his wife abandon their child in a basin floating down a river, which is later picked up by a wizard who uses his magic and the collected bodies of dead children to attach temporary parts onto the poor boy. He also attaches two short swords inside of the boy's arms.

The boy, now grown to be a young man, Tahomaru (Eita) who must kill these demons. With each demon's death, it causes him to lose his temporary body part and sprout his own. He meets up with a pick-pocket, who takes on one of Tahomaru's names, Dororo (Kou Shibasaki). She is disguised as a man, and decides to tag along hoping to take vengeance on the leader who killed her parents, who happens to be the Tahomaru's Father.

The demons are incredible and the special effects are interesting. In addition, to the trapeze work and sword play is slapstick pratfalls. Of course the young people are beautiful teen idle type heart throbs making this an excellent adventure for the young kids, if they don't mind reading subtitles.

I do not follow Anime and but can say I am a passing fan. Some are great but I believe most sacrifice story for effect. I did find out more about Dororo when I found out about the movie. And it does sound like an interesting story. So, here comes this movie. SPOILER ALERT. And he...( read more)re comes the interesting part, the little boy is now a younger adult woman and the protagonist is also younger. So, naturally, I expected them to couple up. To my surprise and the betterment of the movie, they don?t. In fact, the girl, who is the great Kou Shibi-something, acts the role as a young boy ? forget about biology. And Satoshi-er something acts as the whether old man. So, the marketing stab does its best to be neutral. END SPOILER.

The movie is a fun romp. It takes the jolly elements of those older monster action movies (think pre-power ranger type) with the rubber monsters and scales up. Some are still in that vain, others are more polished. All of it is slightly camp, but much of it with adult themes. And the story behind it is classic martial arts. The actors are good. Kou is both annoying and endearing, which is the point. Satoshi is both stoic and empathetic. And it keeps it interesting throughout the journey. I hope they do make more as it is alluded to.

Dororo meaning Little Monster... is quite an interesting film. A warrior sold his unborn's body parts to many demons for the chance to rule the world. The baby found a wanderer who took it upon himself to help the child by creating body parts for hima nd raising it as his own. Teaching the child to fight and when he is grown, can defeat the demons that have his body parts and thus returning it to himself so he can be whole again. His sidekick he befrinded is a female thief with a agenda of her own... She wants revenge on the warrior who destroyed her village and killed her family, unknown to her that the warrior is her friend's biological father. The demons are rather beautiful and ghastly, the CG is very cool and realistic.

Based off of a video game, based off of a manga, this movie wears it well. From the plot to the monsters- it is all good fictional fun. Tsumabuku Satoshi plays the fantastically apathetic & blind/deaf Hyakkumari pretty well. The sidekick (main character supposedly) Dororo playe...( read more)d by Shibasaki Kou is annoying on screen. It is how the character is written- a strong willed girl posing as a boy with a shrill voice and boisterous attitude to match. I don't think any actor could make the character likable to me. Slow to get going but well worth it after the first 1/2 hour. A good science fiction action flick with a decent array of unique demons and even a moral of family values.
