Jean-Claude Van Damme, Geoffrey Lewis, Alicia Stevenson

Jean-Claude Van Damme gets a kick out of himself in this clever if barely competent action thriller, in which the likable Muscles from Brussels plays twin brothers separated at birth by a murderous Ho...( read more  read more... )ng Kong crime syndicate. While the genial Chad lives the posh life as a California aerobics instructor, his sibling Alex chews fat cigars back in China, running a mahjong parlor and making some extra bucks as a smuggler. A quarter-century after being sent to different corners of the globe, they reunite and decide to seek vengeance against the cartel that killed their parents. From there the story and action set pieces are fairly predictable, but that hardly matters since the film's real appeal is in the amusing way the two Van Dammes deal with sibling rivalry, especially where women are concerned. Van Damme, seeking his box-office breakthrough at the time, might have received more of a commercial boost had this movie simply been directed with greater professionalism. The lighting, editing, and shot selection are often ridiculously below the standard of low-budget features. But Double Impact does have its compensations, especially in the casting of leather-clad Cory Everson and exemplary villain Bolo Yeung as a pair of killers who cross the twins' path. --Tom Keogh

    Guilty pleasure but bad nevertheless.

Yet another twin brothers plotline from Van Damme, he just loves to see two of himself on the screen haha I admit when I was a teen I loved this film, it does have some good action sequences and some good fights, this is mainly down to it being in Van Dammes 'Eastern film' period...( read more) with the likes of 'Bloodsport' and 'Kickboxer', and using the same talented Eastern cast members that were used in both mentioned films.
So yes this is in Hong Kong again but that adds to the scenery and style of the film nicely. Its predictable and hammy sure but Van Damme still did the business really well back then and we all kinda loved him for it. The double effects on Van Damme arent too bad either, sort of :) your typical 80's flick really, long haired baddies, big female assassins and oodles of neat little quotes.

Run of the mill, action movie bordering on silliness with Jean-Claude playing twins.

JCVD faces off with himself yet again (I'm sure I can think of at least two others where this happens) to the usual dim-witted kickboxing effect. It's not the worst Van Damme you're going to see, but let's face it, even the best ones are garbage.

A cheesey but enjoyable action film one of the better ones Van Damme has done with a fun plot of good and bad twin!.
  • September 20, 2009
Oh, how this movie was just a No Laughs-Unbarred brainless, Unknowingly Crazy- half assed action flick, that Gets a few Kicks out of it's self, and with some pretty good dialouge, but that is about it.
Not many will enjoy this Jean-Claude Van Damme film, Not Reccomended.
