When Albert Stockwell (Rufus Sewell, Dark City, Illuminata) comes home from work one day, he finds a note from his wife of 15 years, Nancy (Maria Bello, A History of Violence, Thank You for Smoking), ...( read more  read more... )saying she has gone to see friends. After waiting several days, Albert realizes that his wife is missing. Nancy has met her salvation on the Internet in the form of Louis Farley (Jason Patric, The Lost Boys, Rush). Nancy and Louis, both wounded souls, take comfort in one another through e-mail, pictures, and promises of perverse sexual encounters. Nancy has finally found the one and only thing that can liberate her from the pain in her life. While she pursues the freedom that she feels will only come with ultimate liberation, Albert is left to put the pieces together and try to salvage what is left.

This one is tough. This one is messy. But it is made by a group of people of such courage and passion that is rarely seen today. Calling it uncompromising would be an understatment. Radical? Closer; this is the one which will take everything from you - if you let it - or won't gi...( read more)ve you anything, leaving you feeling that you wasted 100 minutes of your time.

"Downloading Nancy" transcends the plot limitations of traditional three-act storytelling, focusing solely on showing a series of extreme states of emotions that, in the end, don't need unnecessary explanation... You won't forget Maria Bello and Jason Patric for a long time after seeing this. And for sure the scene in which they are kissing - if cinema can sometimes reach the level of beauty of sheer poetry, this is that kind of a moment.

A triumph of truthfulness over the form.

This film is very hard to watch but it is a very well made and it allows us into the world of a woman fighting with pain. It seems we're much more in dept at causing and prolonging each others pain than anything else.

In this film, Maria Bello plays a victim of childhood abuse...( read more) who now suffers at the hands of an uncaring husband played by Rufus Sewell.
She also gets involved with a stranger on the internet.
The performances are perfect, while the cinematography and the score show qualities that perfectly fit the story.

very twisted! This movie is very slow & feels like it should be on the Lifetime Tv channel network. If you like dark dramas or any of the stars then give this a try...( read more). Tremendously depressing and highly disturbing film th...( read more)at was inspired by an actual story. I read about it after watching the movie because before the end credits pop up they have this disclaimer that reads 'Inspired by a true story' and they were right on the money with that one. They did change a lot of it like the names and situation, but the fact that she meets someone over the internet to kill her wasn't changed. That stuff is fact and I found that shocking. As for the film itself, it is very bleak. I wouldn't recommend it someone unless they've had their fill of disturbing films. Maria Bello's performance, however, is incredible. She does a very good job at playing a very difficult character and I applaud her for that alone. Jason Patric was surprisingly good, and creepy. Rufus Sewell was outstanding as an emotionless husband. I liked the brutal honesty of the film, but wouldn't want to watch it again unless it's been a year or two later. Overall, very different.

First of all, this film is by no means a feel good, popcorn popping piece of cinema. It's a rather dark, disturbing tale shot in quite dismal premises to tell a story that is real, but not one people want to hear.
However, I was glued to the screen due to the brilliant acting pe...( read more)rformances by Maria Bello and Jason Patric. They portray characters whose tattered souls take comfort in one another through the internet using e-mail, pictures, and promises of sordid sexual encounters. Nancy(Bello), is a severely damaged woman due to being a victim of child abuse, and self mutilation is something that she simply can't keep herself from comitting. Her husband only cares about his virtual golf game he's set up in a downstairs room as she is suffering above. She sees a therapist, but what is it that Nancy ultimately needs?
When it comes down to it, a download can contain various information, good and bad, but it does not however contain a pulse.

A very well directed, dark & twisted tale about the relationships between husband and a bored wife, and the man from the internet who has volunteered to kill her. Yup, it sounds crazy but it's a real phenonemon and it's dealt with quite nicely. The cinematography and especially...( read more) the subtle score work really well too. Good.

Exceptional cast, very dark and twisty but not necessarily in a bad way. The acting most definitely make this movie great.
