Although you would not expect it, this action flick is a morality play with a strong story of redemption and a lot of humorous events! You will laugh, you may cry, but you will definitely be smiling at the end of this movie! And it gets better with every viewing too!
I always enjoy good martial arts movies. Not the best, but definitely very enjoyable. There are some fun dialogue exchanges and the cast is well put together. The plot lacks slightly and the action scenes sometimes aim too much to capture chaos rather than choreography, but still quite good.
This is a take off of Dragon Woods and sort of continues the story of the kids. A little different but well worh he money. Should have won an award for great scenes, but never really got off the ground,
It was alright. The action scenes were pretty cool, but i really wanted a lot more. :) but at least maggie cheung was in it, and I think she is hot no matter how old she is now. I really wished there was more to this though. On the plus side it had one of those old school martial art movie feel to it that I can smile and say wow I like that. on the downside the love storys and interest are not really explored too deeply and I am left kind of confused on where the main characters heart lies in the end. I did laugh at some parts which some people would think it was questionable to do. One of the side plots too I would not expect the chinese to be apart of :) i dunno i just thought it was more.... of a barbarianish sort of attitude and i always considered the chinese to be very cultured and refined in their ways. All in all a good remake and the action films were good, maggie cheung was hot and I did watch it so it had to mean it was worth it. oh well maybe i was alittle to hard on this flick.
This is a brilliant film based at one place throughout the whole film but cleverly angled with cameras to not allow it to become boring just in one place
This epic action-martial arts is technically superb, with bouts of expertly choreographed swordplay and Maggie Cheung is so funny as one of the best HK's talented actresses.
New Dragon Gate Inn is a film that should have been a lot better than it actually is. It has a great cast including Maggie Cheung, Brigette Lin, Donnie Yen and the lesser Tony Leung (not to be mistaken for the greater Tony Leung). It has a great premise (which is basically an inner siege at Dragon Gate Inn) and interesting character dynamics. However it ultimately fails. The main reason is because it doesn't really know what it wants to be. Is it an action adventure? Is it a romance story? It is horror? It is comedy? There are elements of cannibalism and extreme violence that the film doesn't need and leave a bad taste in the mouth. The wuxia fight scenes are good, if edited a bit too much. They are made from bits and pieces rather than choreographed movements. There's also fairly humorous moments when you can clearly see Brigette and Maggie being stunt doubled by men.
Brigette Lin and Maggie Cheung are basically what make the film worth watching. They are superb. Brigette was originally written to be the main character (and in terms of plot she still it) but due to injury she sustained on the set her role was drastically cut and Maggie's role was increased. However Brigette makes a large impact in her scenes and her presence is felt all over the film. Maggie however comes out as the surprise here delivering a marvelous comic performance whiched showed her versatility at a time when
