Plot: Subtle is not the word to describe Drop Dead Gorgeous, a mock documentary purporting to cover the Sarah Rose Cosmetics Teen America Beauty Pageant in Mount Rose, Minnesota. Ellen Barkin (Sea...( read more read more... )) and Kirsten Dunst (Interview with a Vampire, Dick) are perfectly cast as a mother and daughter whose only ambition is to use the pageant to get out of their claustrophobic small-town lives. Opposing them are Denise Richards (Wild Things, Starship Troopers) and her mother, Kirstie Alley (Look Who's Talking), who just happens to be the pageant's organizer. The plot, which centers on contestants being murdered (mostly by flaming explosions), is clearly secondary to the backstage shenanigans and satirical portrayals of vanity, small-town corruption, and family dysfunction. There's not much suspense to the pageant itself, but Dunst is an endearing protagonist and along with the broad jokes are some excellent acting turns from the cast, particularly Barkin, Brittany Murphy (Clueless), Nora Dunn (a Saturday Night Live alumna), and the great character actress Allison Janney, who's played small roles in countless movies but finally gets a chance to shine as the supportive neighbor of Barkin and Dunst. In fact, for all the jokes and satirical jabs, in the end it's the characters' relationships that stay in your mind. A bonus: the soundtrack features a hard-rocking version of the theme from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, performed with cool aplomb by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. --Bret Fetzer

Not The Best, Dragged On, Got Told the death scenes were graphic! As If The Death Were 'Graphic'

One of my favorite movies of all time. Dark and insane. Kirsten Dunst is amazing, but her supporting cast if just wonderful. Kirstie Alley is so well casted in her role, she really carries the movie as the vilian.

I could watch this movie over and over again. It is HILARIOUS! What a cast too! Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams, Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, and Allison Janney. I love the Minnesota accents. "Sarah Rose knows...!"

The most brutally hilarious black comedy ever to have explored this subject, with quality performances from Kirsten Dunst and Amy Adams, not to mention perfect casting in the form of the stunning Brittany Murphy. The ideas behind this film are just wonderful and whilst I don't really know how to sum it up, let's just put it this way: if ever the world should hear a message about beauty pageants, this movie is it...

Teen beauty pageants are mocked in "Drop Dead Gorgeous" with interviewing scenes of featured characters. Good mockumentary!

the best thing is Kisrsten Dunst she is so innocent and beautiful that she fitted perfectly for the role. The movie is just watchable, I mean it is not a good movie but it nos unbearable, I only hated some parts with all my heart, like when the stupid guy say thet he pays his mexican workers with tacos? O h come on!! I mean yes it is a movie thta is very enjoyable if you trully hate beauty pageants (like me) but it is not a very very goood movie at all it is just funny, just a pass tim movie.

I think this is a pretty terrific comedy, but I don't understand why Denise Richards didn't have to do a dialect.

Lets see... hahaha HILLARIOUS!!!! for al the wrong reasons but hillarious still. I love Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards, so I was bound to enjoy this. I'm not embarrased to admit that I'm a proud owner of this movie! As a film critic I'd have to say that this movie is horrible! But as a tween at heart I actually loved it!! The acting is not extraordinary because the cast is not extraordinary, but it has many known faces, like Brittany Murphy and Amy Adams, who are both talented and always a treat. Above everyone I have to say that Ellen Barkin was brilliant!! Probably the best character or at least the best performance. The plot is so dumb, but its definitely intentional and its really funny, I found myself laughing out loud SEVERAL times, which is not an easy reaction to provoke in me (unless you are Steve Carell or Jim Carey). The ending was nice, couldn't have been better. I loved all the deaths and the killings, they are definitely what spice up the movie. Finally, I have to say... I don't know what was wrong with Kirstie Alley, I want to think it was intentional, but her acting was terrible!! Anyways, the movie is funny, a treat, watch this with a simple mind and you'll be able to enjoy it.

This movie missed the mark both as a mockumentary and as a comedy. It's not the worst movie ever - it's watchable... it's also skippable.

Made in the same crazy vein as The Brady Bunch Movie, this one presents a group of sexy teenage women who enter a beauty pageant and all fight for the top place.

Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards and Kirstie Alley star and this one also features a cameo appearance by Adam West.

Oh la la! Quossé ça?! Des concurrents nounounes, un vieux pervers, des parents sans allure, une présidente fatigante et un concept qui se voulait original mais manqué...

I loved it! The plot of nurder at a beauty pageant has been all over tv cop shows, so this could've been pretty stale, but the mockumentary style (which has also been done a lot) and the jokes infused that are more subtle than the flixter review led me to believe, made this a thoroughly enjoyable, laugh-out-loud experience.

the way this movie was set up really reminded me of 'the Office' and the story line vaguely reminded me of Hot Fuzz. this movie was quite hilarious. i think it's my favorite Kirsten Dunst movie.

One of my favorite movies! It's so silly and self-aware, it's great. Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards are perfect rivals and the supporting cast is terrific! There are so many great things about this dark comedy.

Pretty funny. Certainly an odd sense of humor that I thought they could have taken farther. This is really Allison Janney's movie though she is divine.

This movie is the reason I adopted a midwest accent in high school. My friends and I quoted this movie so frequently our dialect changed on accident.

    HILARIOUS!

Almost no plot, but that (along with explosions, drinking, smoking, and cussing) is what makes it so amazing!
