Yet, there are forces that conspire to disrupt their serene existence -- namely, the electricity company; Rita, the neighbor; Ulises, the pizza deliveryman; eleven seconds, the Real Madrid-Manchester game; some chocolate brownies; and a horrible painting of ducks. As a result, they must face such issues as divorce, loneliness, the confusion between adolescent love and friendship and frustration in adult life.

A black and white meditation on boredom, young lust and determination in the face of nothing better to do and being young enough to know that you've got to make the most of it. Of course, the whole movie is an expression of friendship. What better way to show you love someone th...( read more)an to hang out with them all day doing nothing? Simple and fresh. Those are the adjectives that best describe Duck Season. A funny, honest and genuine look at an ordinary sunday afternoon in the life of two 14-year-old kids, with video games, pizza, Coca Cola and the typical issues of early adolescence (the discovery of...( read more) sexuality, parent's divorce, the loss of a friend, etc.), which anyone who was once 14 can relate to (especially guys, considering the two main characters). The film's simplicity, both technically and conceptually, only make it more enjoyable and its themes speak to pretty much everyone. The cast obviously contributes to that. Especially Diego Catano and Daniel Miranda, are both great and it's almost like they're not acting at all, of how real they seem. Just two best friends hanging out.

It's easy and inevitable to link it to Kevin Smith's Clerks, a 'sacred monster' of Indie film. Has that same approach to the often fascinating triviality of life, some hilarious and brilliant dialogues, and it's also done in black and white. Like I said, this film is pure simplicity. There's no deep, philosophical purpose here. Just watch it for the fun, and maybe in the end you'll be able to unveil something resembling a message in it.

Two thumbs WAY up for Fernando Eimbcke! Hasn't been blessed (at all) with the same opportunities and, consequently, recognition of the 'Three Amigos', his fellow countrymen (Iñarritu, del Toro and Cuarón) but may very well be as talented as them, being as well a part of the freshness of this new generation of Mexican Cinema. I hope he has the chance to make some new films in a near future. For now, can't recomend Duck Season enough!

It deals with everything and nothing, but mostly everything. From ages 12 to 20, this movie broke several hearts: it's made for us. And only for us. The choices you make right now, may not be the ones that ruin or improve your life: but they can reaaally make you miserable. Lonel...( read more)iness, depression, love, friendship and even some pot, this is how been a teenager in Mexico feels like. Nobody loves you and nobody cares about you but yourself. But even with all those problems, you can spend a nice Sunday afternoon with your best mate and hide your issues (for a while)... even if it's the last time you'll ever see the guy that makes you happy and helps you get out of your miserable life. Minimalistic and humble, this film is groundbreaking just for its simplicity and soulbreaking for its complex and emotive screenplay and philosophy. A perfect movie. A perfect ensamble performance: the best in Mexican cinema.

A sweet simple film about those long summer days.

What to do in a monotonous sunday? Sundays are always boring, anyway.
But if the lights go off and you can´t play videogame anymore?
You deliver a pizza, of course, but why not making a cake maybe?

Duck Season shows in a very simple but effective way the banality and not a...( read more)lways obvious complexity of a generation growing up in a society of trash food
and trash culture. Nothing really happens at the same time that everything does: discovery of sexuality, first kiss, divorce, parent´s absence, loneliness.
The pizza delivery man represents, perhaps, the future: as it´s possible to survive to a sunday, maybe it´s not possible to avoid the inevitable frustration...

One of the most decent samples masterpieces of Mexican cinema. The characters, although typical, are very complete and you get to comprehend their motivations and inspirations, and how they feel because of their actions throughout the movie as it slowly unfolds.

A modest film, a black and white contemplation of boredom; a summer day encapsuled in a charmingly quiet film about adolesance, friendship and life.
