Enchanting plot and re-watchable, definately. Interesting animation but unfortunately the dubbing and voice actors let it down considerably. I mean really, is that how they speak? But good none the less.

Was a good concieved breath-taking fantasy epic from the novel.

I want to kill how ever allowed this movie to exist. So wrong, not how the story goes at all, I HATE YOU KRISTEN KREUK, STOP RUINING FANTASY!

Ugh. Not even close to the the original story by Ursula K. Le Guin. If you are a fan of the book, avoid this film - it makes almost all of the characters white and corny. For those who have not read the books, it is an OK view, but not outstanding in any way.

I actually thought it was pretty good when I saw this a couple years ago. It made me want to read the books, but form what I've heard the REAL ending of the trilogy sounds like it would just annoy me, so I'm not so sure. Though they're said to be "classics"...

This is an adaptation of one of my favorite fantasy series', and while it's not terrible -- it does get the main gist of things -- it's really not a good adaptation, either. First of all, it tries to sum up the whole trilogy all at once, instead of telling one story at a time, a...( read more)nd it tries to do it all sequentially. There were reasons the author told the story in different pieces at different times. Second, though one of LeGuin's main descriptive elements for the book was that everyone in Earthsea was brown or red-skinned and the only white people were the scary foreigners, the movie is almost all shiny glossy white people.

    Overall, meh.

I had heard that Miyazaki was doing a version of this, and was ecstatic, I can't imagine anyone doing an adaptation of these books better than him. But it turns out he just turned it over to his son, who instead of doing one or all of the books, did some sort of imagined sub-stories set in the space between two of the books. Again, meh. =/

An epic scale movie with twists and turns. and a plot almost as beautiful and complex as LOTR.

Not at all what I expected...If it wasn't for Kristin Kreuk, I probably wouldn't have watched it"
  • July 9, 2009
I got the feeling that it could have been better.

Entertaining adaptation. Almost Harry Potter-ish with the school of magic and a nearly unkillable enemy.

(2004 Director Robert Lieberman) Simply superb fantasy!..I had to wait paitiently over one week befrore I got to watch this (because of finishing finals this semester) May I recommend that you watch it with the Direcotrial comments on?) Did justice (in my opinion) to the Ursula K. LeGuin book Wizard of Earthsea triolgy it is based upon. Danny Glover was wonderful; young Shawn Ashmore (Merry-LOTR) is even more adorable with a scar on this face! Little Lana (Kristin Kreuk-Smallville) makes a lovely priestess...3 lovely woemn star in this including DREAMY....Personally? I thought Sebastian Roche was hot as the Evil King of the G's. And kudos to the lovely talented Isabella Rosselini. The Director's input I listened to through the whole movie. It consisted of some movie-making tip..and also several apologies for having made this movie on a budget about 1/20th of that of Lord of the Rings! I thought this movie did NOT suffer from its bare but adequate $15 million budget.
