So good! Ang Lee continues to impress with his uncanny ability to convey relationships in both a light-hearted, comic manor, and a deeper heavier mood. The intermixed stories, great acting, and excellent cinematography all combine to make this a highly enjoyable film.
Don't expect warriors, swordswomen, powerful swords and breathtaking flying scenes, this is not another Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon. This is Ang Lee's cinematic feast,a movie in which nothing really happens but a gentle, funny, sad, uplifting and of course mouth watering one.Senior Master Chu lives in a large house in Taiwan with his three unmarried daughters.Life in that house gravitates around the ritual of an elaborated dinner each Sunday-the only way he can show his love for them although his daughters consider this dinner to be torture. ''Eat,drink, man, woman.Basic human desires. Can't avoid them. All my life, that's all I've ever done.It pisses me off.Is that all there is to life?" Food for your eyes, true delight for your mind...don't see it on an empty stomach!
The first time I watched this movie, I was a bit skeptical about it. As I got further into the movie, I couldn't help but laugh and feel such amazement for such a close tie of sisters.
One of my all time favorites. This is a comedy first. It is an endearing drama next. The movie twists it takes will leave you delighted and shocked. You will not be prepared for it and you will want to watch it again. This is a movie about family, love, loss, and taste. To taste life in all its fullness of flavor is a delight. But we can lose our ability to taste. This is a well done story. Here is to regaining our sense of taste.
Three sisters and a father who happens to be a cook that has lost his sense of taste. A family struggling to stay united and probably the best usage of food in any film. Not only does it look good but it actually helps tell the story of the generation gap between father and daughters. Lee Ang's most touching film to me.
i think this is one of the first movies i've seen in my life, and to think that i still remembered it from that long ago to shake the dust off it and rewatch it really says something about this film. puts a spin on the dysfunctional family by uniting them with FOOOD. and omg this movie made me hungry.
what ungreatfull bitches. Is I got invitec to a feast like that every sunday I would not only enjoy it and be greatfull, but I wouls also be FAT FAT FAT!!!!!
I love this movie... It is essentially a movie about relationships that uses food and its preparation as a metaphor for love, adn one that I can well relate to, loving to cook myself ;-) This touching and often funny story centers around an emotionally repressed Taiwanese widower master chef's relationships with his three attractive daughters, and their own often tangled love lives. Very well produced, acted and directed, with some exquisite scenes of masterful Chinese food preparation, the ending scene brings a tear to my eye everytime I see it.
Un estudio de las relaciones familiares no exento de humor. El remake que hollywood realizo bajo el titulo de Tortilla Soup pudo haberse llamado Revoltillo con mierda. La pelicula de Ang Lee es una obra maestra.
I love a movie that has a culinary influence. This movie is beautifully presented and shows the bonds of family and how essential food can be in playing a role in tradition and bonding.
An excellent foreign film about a father coming to terms with his 3 daughters growing up...and about the 3 daughters learning that their father can grow too.
