An amazing film based on the ambiguous life of Edward D. Wood Jr. whom is renowned for making numerous poorly made films such as Glen or Glenda and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Johnny Depp delivers and amazing performance, as usual, but Martin Landau steals the show as Béla Lugosi in...( read more) an Academy Award-winning performance. A must see for any Wood fan.

Every single one of my favorite actors makes a lovely woman--Tim Curry, Robin Williams, and Johnny Depp. I wear my wife's angora sweaters, too.

As a weird person myself (I've even been told so this very morning), I thoroughly empathize with the protagonist of this movie. This is a true film (as opposed to a Hollywood ride, for instance), with beautiful black and white cinematography, and a true love of its subject. The mostly true story of the legendary director of awful movies and his strange group of friends and actors.

    Johnny Depp: Ed Wood

    Martin Landau: Bela Lugosi

Ed Wood is based on the bizarre and quirky cross-dressing filmmaker Ed Wood, played with boyish grinning enthusiasm of the talented Johnny Depp in one of his more offbeat of roles. He's the anchor who anchors the film in all its believable foolishness.
Reminds me of Charlie & The Choc in some areas, look out for the WOW!

Skillful are all the supporting cast as well, including Martin Landau, who won a Supporting Role Oscar, Bill Murray, who does amazing things with an underwritten role as a man eager to change his gender, Jeffrey Jones as Criswell, the Magician, and Vincent D'Onofrio as Orson Welles.

But it's the caring bond between Depp and Landau that defines the comic genius of the film and gives it heart. Both are extremely moving and adept at showing the respect and regard they had for each other when their world seemed to be falling apart. The story doesn't deter in showing Lugosi's fall from grace with his addiction to morphine and other drugs that eventually took his life.

A above par recreation and execution of the 50's Hollywood scene with its low budget studio settings, wisely photographed in the B&W manner of most of the Lugosi thrillers.

Entertaining yet a tad dull in area's and genuinely funny overall, Ed Wood is moving and absorbing which I would watch again.

Some great moments, but not a top-tier film.

Burton at his best! A complete masterpiece! The direction is perfect. Landau and Depp are absolutley wonderful - why wasn't Depp nominated for this?! Anyway, a perfect movie overall.

This movie gave me a whole different perspecitve on movie making. It follows director Ed Wood, who was quite possibly the worst director of all time. 'When it came to making bad movies, Ed Wood was the best.'

Maybe it was just Johnny Depp doing the striptease in woman's clothing.. but I really, really enjoyed watching this film. Johnny Depp working together with Tim Burton again, nothing can go wrong with this dynamic duo. ...( read more)Johnny Depp; the talented, brilliant, amazing and good looking actor. While Tim Burton is creative, wonderful, different, sometimes strange.. but together they make the most amazing movies. Ed Wood is no different to the others.

Ed Wood is eccentric, strange yet interesting. Each of Johnny Depp's characters are different to each other, all with their strengths and weaknesses.. but I found Ed Wood really enjoyable to see on the screen, somehow Tim Burton created him as sometimes loving and caring, and sometimes fun and exciting. This film is all about Ed Wood the director, his movies and his life.

It's hard to imagine any other actor playing Ed Wood as well as Johnny Depp did, he gave him so much more character and definitely made this movie a whole lot more entertaining. Martin Landau deserves to be mentioned for his brilliant performance, he was pretty much perfect for his role, I couldn't ask for anyone better. I normally can't stand Sarah Jessica Parker.. she's not exactly my favourite actress. But in this I survived watching her, probably only because Johnny Depp was on the screen whenever she was. Jeffrey Jones was a nice addition to the cast, another regular to Tim Burton's films and in this he was great as always. Oh, and Bill Murray was also excellent, another actor who made this movie more enjoyable.

I haven't really seen any other film like this before, so it was nice to see something different. It definitely has Tim Burton's style of directing, this is informative, enjoyable and humorous. I'd recommend anyone to see this for themselves.. I think I'm finally getting over my dislike for black and white films.

    A real blast to watch....

There is somethig about this flick, it has such a sweet nature to it and I loved hanging out with Ed, Bela and co.

Johnny is great and his scenes with Landau as Lugosi are just so much fun to watch. The friendship that was built up was so evident and they were probably my favourite parts of the film. I also loved Bill as well, everytime he popped up, he made me smile with just his mannerisms alone.

Visually, Tim has made a beaut again. The black and white looks so good and fits the material like a glove. The soundtrack is fantastic as well.

I'm a sucker for films about the biz and this one is great fun.

I make movies, so I can certainly understand the plight of poor Eddie Wood. Johnny Depp is beyond brilliant in this movie, as is Martin Landau....and everyone else for that matter. Tim Burton's BEST, IMHO. This is my 3rd favorite movie.
