Edmond Reviews and Ratings

I'll be honest, this movie was pretty quirky and strange but also quite interesting. At first, we meet the character of a pretty mild businessman that is a little disappointed with having a meeting being pushed back to a certain time.

Enter the odd little fortune-telling place h...( read more)e encounters with those same digits. Then the odd cards he receives in his tarot reading. Which causes him to go home and leave his wife, after he realizes how boring it all is.

Then, after going to the bar and meeting quite a character that seems to brainwash him about things. Things get really weird, a whirlwind of events that seems to spiral out of control. A story of a lonely man trying to fill the emptiness he feels.

William H. Macy does a wonderful job of portraying such a mild-mannered soul that suddenly goes out of control and does so many things that are looked down upon in society.

Getting a hooker is expensive, street card gaming people are cheaters and pimps apparently want to kill you. Even after all this he still continues to search the streets for something. Well, after that the boredom kind of disappears.

I noticed when watching this piece that Edmond seemed to be a little obsessive when he spoke about certain things. He also seemed to be reiterating the words spoken to him at the bar and then adding on. Spiralling into madness that leads to other events that only seem to get him in trouble.

There is one part in the movie which is almost heartbreaking when he's discussing things with the priest. And then, somehow it kind of winds down and things begin to settle.

William H Macy is perfect for this role, you just want to hate him so much, but at the same time feel sorry for him. Very entertaining movie...

Not many other actors can pull off the quiet, misunderstood every man with something dark lurking beneath the surface like William H Macy can. I thought this was really good, drags you into the seedy nightlife from the perspective of a naive businessman. You can tell it was still...( read more) in play format, it just has that feel to it. I still wasn't quite sure why he did what he did by the end of the film, and the actresses in it are just cameos, they barely leave an imprint in the film. It was gritty and seedy and dark and uncomfortable and I didn't mind it. Macy is always brilliant.

Movie had a lot of potential. Very disappointing. Good cast but all have short parts except Macy who is the main actor.

Really didn't like this film. Apparently was a play, and while the cast is good, they're acting like they're on stage - really annoying. While I know the main character isn't supposed to be likeable the dialogue doesn't really offer anything of worth. A boring film, a waste of time for the people who aren't ready to listen, but for those who are ready this is a great film with many points and theories about this world that gets you thinking.

David Mamet stuff is hit or miss with me; this one, definitely a miss.

Have you ever seen such a disgruntled picture? It seemingly can't decided whether it wants to be a thriller or a drama, and the dialogue is so inconsistent that one can never quite distinguish the picture between silly melodrama or a dark and disturbing dialectic on mankind's vic...( read more)iousness. The cinematography leaves something to be desired but at times it is quite impressive and Macy gives an oscar worthy performance - despite some other difficulties which we won't apply.

The film's first half is filled with generic build up and nothing seems to be accomplished - but as the second act developes and the rest of the film builds to an unexpected conclusion, where Macy finds adoration in the strangest of places, it becomes a top notch film and certainly one of the better American films of 2006.

This film didn't get raving reviews; however, I feel that it definitely had some merit. Though the plot wasn't as focused as I would have liked, it made me think. There is alot lurking beneath the surface of this movie - if you are willing to dig.

Good movie but also disturbing. William H Macy does a great job as do all the other actors in mostly very small roles... mainly Mena Suvari, Julia Stiles, Bokeem Woodbine and Bai Ling. • December 4, 2006
A less than mediocre film that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Macy's character slowly snaps into a world of chaos that is not particularly interesting or believable.

It's like a horrible rip-off of "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Falling Down."

Two stars simply for Macy's performance which is slightly above average. Not worth the time. Sorry Mr. Mamet.

For the second time this week I've been disappointed by a film, which has a trailer that looks really good.

An extremely edgy film that kept me riveted the whole time. Reminded me of 'Falling Down" a little. Its one of those movies that ends without really resolving anything.

I don't know exactly why I didn't like this movie. William H. Macy is very good, and Julia Stiles, probably one of the best actresses in Hollywood, is also great. Their scene together is probably the best one in the movie. But the story seemed slow, and confusing, and really n...( read more)ot all that interesting. It was really hard to root for Edmond at times; he was a sad character, but not always a sympathetic character. Overall, not really worth the time, which is a little bit of a disappointment considering who the actors were.

Spécial, et troublant... William H. Macy est tout simplement incroyable dans son rôle. Un fil qui a été sous-estimé par le public moyen, mais qui est tout de même intéressant. À ne pas prendre à la légère, et ayez le coeur solide.

It really pains me to rate this movie as high as I did. But, it gets the rating it did for William H. Macy's performance even though he annoyed the shit out of me. No I take that back. This is getting the rating it is getting solely because of Mena Suvari in a really nice see thr...( read more)ough lace number.

This movie really blew and of course I should have known better because I had never heard anything about it. Basically, this is what the movie is about. You follow William H. Macy, who early in the movie leaves his wife, you follow him around trying to get laid. Then when ever he is about to he says oh that's way too much. Then he gets robbed, beats the shit out of a pimp....finally gets laid then kills the girl that he got laid by. Then harrasses an older black lady, then gets thrown in jail for murder and then gets in bed with his cell mate. That basically sums it up. I'm sure you all want to go out and rent this movie now. I don't recommend it at all. Just take my word for it please.

This is not a film for you if you don't have a strong stomach. If you appreciate films that are challenging and the actions of its protagonists are not always clear then this could be for you.

Following Bill Macy's Edmond on a night out in the seedy parts of town is compellin...( read more)g stuff. At the start of the film he has a chance meeting with a fortune teller which leads to him walking out on his wife and into the night. The assorted deadbeats that he encounters in an effort to get laid make for uncomfortable viewing. Ultimately his actions lead to tragedy for which he will pay a heavy price.

Bill Macy is exceptional in this. Watching him change from the mild mannered man he is at the beginning to the lunatic he becomes is spellbinding stuff. Add in Mamet's dialogue and a host of great actor's including Fat Tony himself makes for a good viewing.
