A girl ,obsessed with fairy tales and living with a sadistic stepfather who hunts Communist guerrillas in post-Civil War Spain, is informed by a faun that he will restore her to her throne as an immortal fairy princess if she can complete three tasks. This would have made an exc...( read more)ellent movie if it had been written as either a dark childhood fantasy or a wartime drama; seamlessly mixing the two plotlines together turns it into a work of pure genius. The Pale Man and the Captain are two of the most frightening monsters seen on the screen this decade.

A very unique and outstanding attempt on the combination of an adult fairy tale and realistic resistance war story. Director Del Toro manages to merge those two very different aspects into a very moving, exciting and entertaining movie with wonderful effects and design. I was absolutely blown away by this film. Being a huge fan of Cronos, I'd hoped Guillermo del Toro would return more to his roots in direction. Don't get me wrong, I love Hellboy, its just that this is what he does best. Brilliant, possibly the best film so far this decade/Millen...( read more)nium.

The film can be qu...( read more)ite bloody and violent at times to which was a surprise, this is definitely for an adult audience.

A well made and touching film. Deserving of its fame, it's sure to make people think about the condition of Ofelia, the film's protagonist, in a world seemingly fused with one of barbarity and confusion.

I always love Guillermo's. His works could always engaged different perspective about so many things behind/ beyond all that creepy and scary stuff around us. I also like how he combined, fantasies, myth, (so often) war scene and of course - Children world and innocentness.
