Pretty good movie, plot is very tight regardless of the fact that it doesn't feel that way while you're watching it. Reminiscent of The Ring in a couple ways.
Nice and creepy.I wasn't sure if I'd like this one but I really did.It even made me jump a few times.Kinda wacked out twist on the end with the son.Nice.
A haunting thriller with good direction, cinematography & some good sound effects.The story dragged a little tours the end but i still enjoy the story.Is a interesting film that has a nice conclusion,as i wasn't expecting to turn out the way it did.
I thought, and was hoping, that this would be a horror film. However, I still really like it. It turned out to be very sad. Many wrongs were created, but in the end they were avenged in their own way. I love the house, and especially the mask.
People always assume their child's imaginary friends are really imaginary...but this isn't always the case.
This was a good portrayal of a mother's love, blood, or not.
I can't say this is a perfect spook movie, but I think it's still pretty good all the same. The plot is interesting enough to keep your attention throughout, and is also quite clever and original for its genre. The thing is, the atmosphere in it could have been a lot eerier than it was. Not only the heart racing scenes are almost non existent, but they're also a bit soft for my taste... Ok, cutting the crap, they're not heart racing at all in their majority. Which in turn makes this movie a lot less scarier than it actually could have been.
So, I guess what seems to make this film worthy of your time is really the story that is being told. That alone makes it all worthwhile. And the performances are quite good also. It is my belief the Spanish actors and actresses of the world are finally succeeding on not acting as if though movies were soap operas... Oh... If only the actors and actresses in my country were capable of that achievement... One can only hope.
Really really scared me out!if you're looking for an 'expensive' horror movie,u have to watch it!Really, this is unlike the other 'cheap' horor movie,which only gripping on their music.
This movie was reminds me to The Other by Nicole Kidman.
Don't see it alone at midnight!it's REALLY SCARY.

decent genre piece. formulaic but with heart. there are some "no way a mom would do that" moments, but these are forgiven with the stronger underlying themes. Rueda is the real draw here. i love her range.
Technically it is remarkable. Great photography, audio, great performances, but the script is not very good. It has some great moments, but it feels too slow most of the time.
"O Orfanato" abusa do direito de ser macabro. Estão presentes alguns dos elementos mais medonhos: crianças bizarras falando espanhol, velhas deformadas com roupas vintage, uma casa isolada macabra, uma fotografia escura e quase monocromática, alusão nem sempre direta ao além, silêncios desconfortáveis e barulhos no meio da noite. Tudo dá medo, sério.
Apesar de se utilizar desses elementos nada originais, o filme consegue ter um roteiro bacana e bem amarrado, sem cair num reducionismo muquirana e sem procurar respostas simples no mundo dos mortos. Até esse ponto é muito bem resolvido.
É, sem sombra de dúvida, um dos melhores filmes de terror a que já assisti. E olha que eu nem sou fã do gênero.
I am SO disappointed in this. It felt like a remake of The Others, only a little more "del Toro-esque". You know, sprinkled with fantasy and crazy imagination.
Guillermo del Toro is a GOD, but it doesn't mean all of his films are masterpieces. Like this film for instance, call me crazy but I thought this was REALLY overrated. Totally unoriginal!
I mean come on, children seeing other invisible children? Children drawing invisible beings and their parents freaking out at their generally unnatural behaviour? PLEASE! We have seen this concept SO MANY TIMES! It's about time they stop making such movies!
However I have to admit that Belén Rueda is superb in her role as Laura, mother of Simon. She can act various emotions with such passion that it becomes believable. And as for the other actors, mmmyeah they were good. Just not as good as Rueda.
And as much as the concept is a "been there, done that"... it's catchy. Only because some elements of the story are well-thought and well-introduced.
I will only say this: the ending is wonderful. But it has already been done people! Don't get all happy and excited!!
A traditional ghost story: dark, sad, suspenseful, and beautiful. I felt for Laura. I felt her desperation in that large, mansion. I felt her heartache.
This is an amazing movie. It's beauty is not only seen but felt. Even the ending wrenches at your heart...but you can't help but smile a bit.
Good movie, but if you ask me, not scary. I didn't even get jumpy...the creepiest parts were in the basement and in the bathroom scene. Besides not being scary, definitely a good movie. It's got a good plot and keeps you wondering. I think it's worth a watch or two :)
If it was a Stephen King movie, it wouldstop right after Simon is found. But the Spanish version of 'pukul berapa datuk harimau' with the kids-ghosts was the best. The opening credit with The Shining-ish wallpaper really got me interested...
A horror film even non-horror buff should watch. It scares you yet warms you with that element of love, then aches you in that irrevocable remorse. Must watch!
Great movie! With scary moments, lots of tension and a very good plot. Highly Recommended

Sure the scary parts really make you jump but the plot isn't very believable and the father character just comes and goes from the movie whenever which had me thinking, "Why is he letting his wife do this?" instead of being engrossed in the movie. If you love spanish horror movies, I suppose this one is great but overall there isn't anything special here, especially with the super predictable ending that wasn't portrayed well. I will say that this straight-horror was better than any American cookie cutter attempt I've seen in over a year.
Apesar de seguir os modelos comuns de filmes de Suspense/Terror, apesar de se parecer muito com "Os outros", eu adorei o filme. Gosto desse tipinho. O fato de ser um filme espanhol, de ter um cenário lindo de morrer e ser bem articulado me conquistou. Ah sempre tem tb aquele lado sentimental que prevalece no final...Enfim, meio normal, mas eu gostei.
