Nice movie... The story of young Ella who was given the gift of obedience is a very frustrating movie, it should be wild and charming and funny and the best thing since sliced bread, or if not sliced bread then The Princess Bride, but some how it doesn't quite work as whole.
The cast is game, the special effects are good and the direction seems to be mostly on target, but somewhere along the way the movie decided to be too hip, too happening, too many things all at once. Its a comedy, fantasy, adventure, musical and a few other things all at the same time. It has timeless humor and humor that is in danger of dating very badly. It feels some times like a TV movie for kids and at other times something that should be on the big screen for everyone. It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Somehow I think that there were too many people with too many ideas (good ideas) but no one to say too much is a bad thing. I like it.
I love fairytales, and Ella Enchanted has a hilarious take on many of them. Love Anne Hathaway and Cary Elwes is just his usual funny self. Great movie!
Almost unbearable & Hathaway is annoying as usual, Oh and about that ridiculous dance sequence at the end It was like they're trying to shove good feeling down our throats & I felt nauseated
All I remember about this movie was using my remote to fast forward through most of it, hoping something interesting would catch my eye. And then the movie was over. A lame story.
I was definitely more amused by this film than I expected to be. Sure it's stupid, but what princess story isn't? The humor was in places so unexpected that it made it even more hysterical. Plus you've got Cary Elwes, Eric Idle and.... Heide Klum? Just sit back and enjoy the cute randomness of it all, especially the musical number at the end.
I know the movie didn't do so well when released. I didn't bother to watch it until it came on ABC family. It was cute...but the obidience was crazy...
its simillar to cinderella its about a girl called ella that was given the gift of obedience when she was born when her mum died her dad re-married and she gets 2 step sisters who treat her horrible.
Ok I am a huge sucker for fairytales so I loved this. Not perfect, and no where near as good as the likes of 'The Princess Bride' (for a start Elwes is now playing the baddy and not the handsome prince) but you can still get carried away by the magic.
Hugh Dancy is darn adorable in this film, and whilst watching it I found it incredible that a couple of weeks ago I was watching him playing the very confused Buddy in 'Evening', such a diverse range of characters he plays so well.
Anne Hathaway is always remarkable and I love Cary Elwes pretty camp version of the villian, but I do miss him being the heroic lead now he is a bit too old to pull it off.
Cary Elwes is hilariously evil ham in this movie. Beware of the extensive 70s musical numbers. Good for all those tweens out there who liked the Princess Diaries movies.
Im really disappointed on this movie, didnt' feel enchanted or magical at all, just BOOM of magic...but still i think it would have been one of my favot is i were 5 yrs old..
