  Innovative, tense and unnerving tale that is also very stylish, with inspired visuals, imaginative use of sound and spectacular editing. It is also a little confusing upon first viewing but it is clear by the end that everything did make sense. An intelligent work that deals with gender/work issues, psychological make up and it's consequences plus the question of dealing with cult 'victims'. In short a lot of ground is covered and it should not be forgotten that this is still a rattling good yarn involving a serial killer who acts each Monday on a Tokyo underground line at 6.00 pm. Setsuko is called in to help police with the case, she having had experience in the field and,, it turns out, worked rather closely with another certain gentleman who we meet a little later. The b/w security camera sequences shot in his clinic are possibly a little long but it is fearsome stuff

  I tried to watch this some time ago, but i just couldn't follow it. Sogo Ishii is a great director, but this one feels way too cold to aproach. Might need a rewatch

  Someone needs to pass out free t-shirts to those who can make it from start to finish in one sitting: "I Survived Angel Dust". This film is very slow, atmospheric, moody, off-kilter like one of those walks you would take in a funhouse where the path is unbalanced, off-center or uneven. There are some genuine weird, creepy moments...but the bulk of the screentime is spent with long, drawn out camera images, pauses, angles or dialogue. The film seems to consist more a collection of sounds and visions..some interesting and acute, others off-beat that contributes to the 'feel' of the movie rather than to the story itself. If you are the impatient sort I suggest skipping this one. After you watch the finale, you feel the need to see it a second time through...well maybe another day!
