Sean Connery, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Ving Rhames

Sean Connery plays a master thief thought to be long retired, while Katherine Zeta-Jones is his foil, a hotshot insurance investigator assigned to his case. They both have a little something to hold o...( read more  read more... )ver each other's heads, until it turns out that Zeta-Jones is a professional art thief herself and is playing on both sides of the fence. At first they eye each other with mutual distrust until they team up for a job, which goes off without a hitch. Inevitably their prickly relationship begins to thaw somewhat, and the two become attracted to each other as they plan out the massive Y2K bank scam that is the movie's climax (complete with sequel-ready ending). Entrapment plays somewhat like a '70s caper movie revamped for the gadget-happy high-tech '90s. The plot takes a few too many labored twists and turns, and the chemistry between the two leads is nearly nonexistent, though both carry on gamely in their parts. On the other hand, there is some genuine suspense in many scenes as they go about their business, dripping with whiz-bang burglary devices. Zeta-Jones, of course, is drop-dead gorgeous, and Connery is as reliable as always in his role. The fairly flat editing and direction tends to drag the film down somewhat, but fans of caper movies, high-tech thrillers, and the two leads should find plenty to like in this film. --Jerry Renshaw

Entrapment is exactly what this film is guilty of. It is a snare for all those lured to cinemas by Sean Connery's charm & Catherine Zeta-Jones' bum, and the false promise of an enjoyable crime caper.

Connery and Zeta-Jones were very good in this movie. Connery's getting up there in age, but he will always be a great actor.

Mac: Rule number one: never carry a gun. If you carry a gun you may be tempted to use it. Rule number two: never trust a naked woman.

While describing this movie to my friend who came in late, I told her that it's about thieves thieving so they can be successful in thieving. On...( read more)e's the master thief and the other's the rookie thief trying to prove herself to the master. I said this and realized that this is a very easy movie to come and enjoy. It's in no way original and it involves two of the sexiest people in the world trying to one-up each other.

Mac: We'll either both get caught or both get dead.

Sean Connery is a master thief and Catherine Zeta Jones is a rookie thief posing as an insurance agent. She seeks Connery out with a proposition to learn from him as well as make a lot of money.

From there we get a number of twists and turns revolving around alliances and how-do-they-do-it thieving scenes.

And besides the forced romantic factor between Jones and Connery, the movie is very sexy showing both characters. Connery is at his most Conneryist here and Jones struts her ass through lasers. What more could you want? Well, you get Ving Rhames being his cool self as well.

Its a very decent movie, that flies by very quickly and is fun enough.

Mac: Has there ever been anyone you couldn't manipulate, beguile or seduce?
    Gin: No.

good movie, Catherine Zeta-Jones was smokin' in this movie.

A dreary high-tech heist movie. The stars may be British but the wealth of extraneous travelogue details (castles, stately homes and red telephone boxes in the British segment) show this to be squarely aimed at the American market. Honestly, you'd think it was subsidised by the B...( read more)ritish tourist board. Zeta-Jones and Connery are okay but there's no real chemistry between them; perhaps Catherine couldn't imagine herself falling for some craggy old dude at this phase in her career.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

A movie with a preposterous plot, exotic locations, absurd action sequences, and so much chemistry between attractive actors that we don't care. full review

Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com

It's often all too easy to see where the plot's headed; tiny holes and bigger ones open up under the story. full review

Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

An adventure movie without two brain cells to rub together. But Connery's sad and reflective acting gives the movie depth and poignancy. full review

Y'know what? Forget Sean Connery in this film. I mean, my god, Catherine Zeta Jones looks insanely gorgeous in this movie. Heck, Pauly Shore or Larry The Cable Guy could've played the main role of the picture, & I would still rate this as a 5-star movie, jus' b'cuz of Catherine Zeta Jones' high standard o' fineness.
