I liked this movie A LOT! Action was amazing. Christian Bale was great in this film. Definitly worth watching more than once. Honestly, some of the coolest action scenes I've seen.
Well i change everything i said before, i watched it again and was blown away. Christian Bale pulls off an amazing role and makes the film better than it is.
How can you hide emotions that you've never felt? And why is the one blatantly apparent emotion that remains a thinly veiled rage? Despite these two overwhelming conundrums that the film could not resolve, this is an intriguing film that ultimately shows the lengths someone will go to to have complete control over people.
The plot is 'Matrix,' meets 'Minority Report,' meets 'V for Vendetta,' meets 'Gattaca,' and so on, but the socially relevant themes of this film are really what drive it home.
And the question I will pose is is the elimination of emotion necessary to have ultimate control over a society? In the end, the message here seems to be that nature will eventually restore its own order. And this movie does an exciting job showing us that.
I love films with at least semi-realistic gun fights - all that house of flying daggers stuff sucks. So I enjoyed this - plus happy ending made a nice difference to a dystopia - 1984 makes me feel sick.

A exciting, intense, engaging, Sci-fi film. This movie was cool! The direction was fantastic and the music is a nice touch. I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised.
I absolutely love this movie. Christian Bale gives an amazing performance, the story itself is politically and psychologically intriguing and the action scenes are to die for.
just rewatched this and I loved it even more. yes it may be a rip-off of The Matrix, but i think this has a better story and a better cast. plus, as i said before; Bale rules, what else is there?

Everything about this movies says John Preston is the star thats why he can do what he does, and can get away with anything, just as Neo is the one. It's an "okay" movie, definitely wouldn't compare it to the matrix though... even the chracters in matrix seems to be more on Prozium than these characters. The movie comes off as just a mimic of other film, and the ending (well not just the ending)... I got some criticism for that too...
By far the best action intense movie I have ever seen. At times, I was out of my seat, due to how incredible the fight scenes were. Fully loaded testosterone!
some nice pics, a lot of not that good way too overdone ones, a way too predictable story and the feeling that the actors actually would like to be somewhere else (especially sean bean) don't help you like this one
nor does the gung-fu thing ... statisticaly avoiding bullets must be one of the worst ideas in the last 10 years or so ... and it really doesn't look good. plus it is somehow a matrix copy thing ... dancing arround bullets in stylish black cloths ...
the dark future the movie shows somehow fails to touch too ... and i love anti-utopian futures and scifi in general...
still has several good moments, but there are better things to do with your time

A very innovative futuristic sci-fi action thriller starring Christian Bale. Who can imagine anything better !
The pace is so fast you'll sense your watching on a fast forward basis.

After a Third World War has left mankind on the brink of destruction, the newly formed state of Libria decides to suppress human emotion with a dose of the drug Prozium. It's a provocative premise for an apocalyptic thriller, one that is executed in half-intriguing fashion, half downbeat action style. Not an usual mix really.
The idea of suppressing emotion I initially found rather confusing. To have no feeling at all would mean one is robotic, but as a human that is almost impossible. Apparently, however, Prozium only suppresses highs of human emotion. But what of those who have a fear of needles? How did they initally inject themselves with the drug? Was it, perhaps, fear of slughter and death instilled by the corrupt Government? Or was their fear obliterated after a forced first dose? These questions remain unanswered, and it is always difficult to perceive any character here that is totally absent of some kind of feeling.
Christian Bale is quite exceptional in the rather limited lead role, bringing out the most from his character, but everyone else seems to go by un-noticed, except an excellent but small turn from Emily Watson as a sense-offender. It is quite fascinating to observe the sheer mass of objects that are classified as art, and the destruction of certain things leads to some rather stomach churning moments. So many everyday things we would never imagine seem to invoke some sort of idea or design.
Unfortunately the film believes itself to be more majestic than it is. Action sequences have a detached quality as though they could belong to any film of the genre, and they lose the message in their conventional video-game style. Luckily scenes where Bale stumbles upon moments of distress offer much more empathy.
'Equilibirum' is weaved together slightly unevenly and the screenplay's structure is far from original, despite the execution showcasing some flair, but it's a well made film that is worth a watch, if just for the intriguing philosophical factors.
Another excellent movie about a post apocaliptic worl wth no WArs!..bu also with no feelings.. good acting, better direction, nice plot, and a plus: thers not that many visual effects that could steal importance to the plot...is Matrix meeting Minori...(read more) ty report but wtih all that headaching visaul effects
really really good storyline... it does have some traits of the Matrix.. meaning the control part... Christian Bale was amazing in this movie... now that I have seen this I can open up more to his films and fully enjoy the depth he bringz to his rolls
I remember the first time I saw this film nobody had any idea that film ever existed, I'm proud to say I bought this film the day it came out and I've never looked back.
