one of the all time best movies. the new version is horrible tho, its no family movie to all enjoy, its something u stick on for the kids to watch as u chat somewhere else

FROM ALL THE FILMS I'VE SEEN THIS FILM SCARES ME THE MOST, WHEN I WATCHED IT AS A KID IT SCARED ME SO MUCH IM STILL TERRIFIED NOW, AND EVERYONE LAUGHS AT ME FOR IT TOO, I KNOW ITS A KID FILM BUT DOES NO-ONE ELSE FIND IT SCARY?

brilliant film for its time. Great story,well shot, great characters, scary for the kids, emotional for the parents a perfect fantasy tale with a happy ending. Remember it was aimed at kids and the family as was batteries not included unlike spielbergs other ET film Close encounters.Every body loves Alien films.Especially Spielberg. Does he know some thing we dont?

obviously those who bash it didnt grow up in the time it came out or was a huge hit.

From the previous comment that this film scares you? When I saw this film when it hit theatres in the summer of 1982,people in the audience were crying in droves and this was a tearjerker not to mention a love story about a small boy and his extra terrestrial friend from another planet. The ending of this film will bring out the kleenex. Probably the greatest Steven Spielburg movie to ever support that. It was re-released in theatres for its 20th anniversary in 2002. The greatest children's movie ever made.
