Another quirky drama written by Charlie Kaufman, the master of such things. This is another of 2004's most finely crafted films.

Original and compelling, a real treat to watch even if it does feel like a long music video in places. Brilliant! Great soundtrack too!

What a great film...
I was surprised...
I am not a fan of either Jim Carrey or Kate Winslet, but their performances in this were magnificent...
Plus, this is probably the most clever scenario based on a love story... Thanks Charlie... -

Probably the strangest film I've ever seen. Clementine (Kate Winslet) wants to erase Joel (Jim Carrey in one of his serious roles, the way I like him best), her boyfriend from her mind, a job that can be done by a special doctor. When Joel discovers that she has done this, he dec...( read more)

The disappointment I felt at the end of Eternal Sunshine was almost crushing, simply because there were sections of it that were as daring in their emotional directness as anything I've seen in years. full review
This is the best movie I've seen in a decade. For once it's no hyperbole to say, 'Unforgettable!' full review
It's a scruffy, blurry puzzle to put together, and well worth the effort -- just be sure to clear a tabletop for it in your mind. full review
Despite jumping through the deliberately disorienting hoops of its story, Eternal Sunshine has an emotional center, and that's what makes it work. full review
A poignant story set in a clever plot amidst exceptional performances. full review
One of the deepest, most moving dramas in years. full review
Do you feel clever, punk? Well, do you? Because that's the only way to get your head around the latest Charlie Kaufman flick. full review
A remarkable film that can coax a smile about making the same mistakes in love and then sneak up and quietly break your heart. full review

July 31, 2008excellent writing, unconventional directing, shifting points of perspective towards a hallucinatory feel, herky jerky camera work and a first rate cast combine for an honest depiction of both the fragility of our tenderest heart connections and the brutal savagery of our emotionally charged breakups. carrey, for once, is either directorially restrained or shows self-restraint to deliver the jimmy stewart in this that he always wanted to be...and, he's right, he's really brilliant at it. and kate winslet amply proves that helena bonham carter's not the only one who knows her way around emotionally damaged types. but all of these words are simply a flimsily constructed intellectual mask hiding my absolute love for this work, an intricate anti-valentine valentine for lovers. 5 stars.

December 10, 2007I think this the most well written movie I've ever seen. I have never seen Jim Carrey performing like this. Kate Winslet was great too. One extra thing you have to spot in the movie is the music. The music was really great, Jon Brion did a great job.

November 10, 2007This is my absolute favorite movie of all time. It's perfectly shot by Michel Gondry.. a director that I'm sure to keep tabs on.

June 28, 2007This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, Jim Carrey's best work to date. I think some day this movie will be truely reconginzed for its brilliance and Jim Carrey will be recognized for his overlooked acting abilities.
