Plot: A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole and has now returned...with someone or something new on-board.
A terrible B-movie horror that wants to be a disturbing psychological thriller and fails miserably. The first act is interesting, then it trips over itself and disappears up its own asshole.
One scary arsed movie. This is entertaining to watch, if not....terrifying. A really well made movie with a good story. Worth a watch
I don't usually get freaked out by movies but for some reason seeing a guy swallowing/eating his whole arm did it.
OMG, this is the scariest movie in the world. There is lfe a guy and all his vein pop... and...well...just don't see it. it's way to scary!!!
A half-interesting plot housed into a half-complete movie assembled by a half-assed production team, Event Horizon has its interesting aspects and turns but ultimately falls far from a memorable film in either of the two genres that it steps heavy treads into. The potential was there for Event Horizon to be an endearing, stimulating science fiction horror journey, but due to its truncated running time, hokey script, and turgid performances - it shambles constantly.
Paul Anderson's strange space adventure about as ghost ship going through some kind of wormhole to hell is kind of stupid.
This is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen! I finaly bought it on DVD this past week and rewatched again. Love it
"You know nothing. Hell is only a word. The reality is much, much worse. "
You know what they say; if you are ever see Sam Neil, run in the opposite direction! If you don't get the joke then i feel bad for you!
Anyway, this movie is just absolutely amazing. Its a complete thrill ride into the sci-fi realm. If i EVER got the chance to go to space i would pass it up because of this movie....no thanks k.
I loved this movie because its sooooo creepy. Its alot like Sphere in the way it that it just creeps you out and makes you paranoid.
If you are into sci-fi flicks with a lot of blood and crazy rediculous scenes then you NEED to see this.
There are a few slow parts here and there (its a space movie) but by the end of the movie TOTALLY worth it! Greaaaat ending!
Check it out if you can its so good.
So scary that a 12 year old kid could scream :p Leaves a lot up to the imagination while cleverly using shock tactics. Brilliant!
Somewhat silly sci-fi concept where a spaceships warp drive is actually a portal to hell. Explains the recent Star Trek movies.
original and imaginative yet not spectacular. a crew of a spaceship go on the hunt for another spaceship that their community lost contact with 7 years previous. only the missing ship has been where no man has been before. i'll let you guess where. anyway, haven't seen sam neill in much except the obvious jurrasic park and the lesser known although note-worthy merlin. he was good enough and so was laurence fishburne of matrix fame. no one acted particularly well but the film itself gets you thinking and keeps your attention. probably the geordie directors best film
Pretty much any movie that takes place in space is gonna have my attention. As sci fi horror movies go, you could do a lot worse, but it isn't anything to write home about...........unless you are just interested in seeing Laurence Fishburne before he got fat.
Well, they tried but unfortunately the characters were so poorly written I could not care for any of their safeties. Which is the main point of a horror film, is that you are worried about what will happen to the main characters. Then the second half hit and it completely looses me once it turns into a complete gore fest.
This movie had an interesting plot and I loved the special effects and the actors made you believe in what was happening. Sam Neil is very evil guy in this movie(or I should say becomes a very evil guy). You never know where hell is and if you send things to places you don't know about...don't be surprised at what you find.
Freaky in an Aliens way, but the lack of creature took away some of the scare. Visually nice to look at though and the acting is pretty decent.
I like. Missed the beginning though, so I had no clue what was going on for quite some time...... This may, or may not, have made it seem better/worse than it actually was.
OMG this film has always scared the crap out of me and i'm so glad i watched it with my lovely last time so i could cuddle up to him when it got scary again ><
Cool movie. The premise was great enough. But juxtaposing science with the occult in one movie, though a commendable attempt, just wasn't a successful one in this film.
Ok, almost everyone hates "Event Horizon" but this sci-fi is very entertaining. Also, the cast seems to be having a good time onscreen and the loose direction of Paul W.S. Anderson contributes to it. But the same loose direction exposes the terrible screenplay and consequently the other weak characteristics of a movie who could`ve been much better.
The thing about science fiction movies is that they are permitted a fair bit of poetic licence. When the doctor explains the way the hypothermal reactive core activator works, the average viewer is probably going to take his or her word for it. Such is the setting of "Event Horizon", the chances that any of the scientific reality can be argued is quite slim.
The year is, curiously, 2047. Seven years previous, the Event Horizon, a ship sent to discover what existed in the furthest reaches of outer space, disappeared. But when a distress signal is identified as coming from the ship, a Search and Rescue team are sent to rescue the crew and find out where the ship has been for seven years.
Captain Miller (Fishburne - "What's Love Got to Do With It?", "Deep Cover") is the aggressive leader who is accompanied by his main crew of Justin (Jack Noseworthy), Cooper (Richard T Jones), Peters (Kathleen Quinlan), Starck (Richardson - "Loch Ness") and Smith (Pertwee). Coming along for the ride is Dr Weir (Neill - "In The Mouth of Madness", "The Piano", "Dead Calm") who explains to the incredulous crew that there was more to the Event Horizon than met the eye. The ship contained a gateway device that allowed the ship to travel faster than the speed of light but soon after activating the gatweay, contact with the ship had ceased.
When the rescue crew located and board the ship they find no signs of human life and eventually it becomes clear that something else is in evidence on the Event Horizon. There is some form of life but not a form that they are familiar with...
"Event Horizon" has all the trappings of a classic sci-fi movie. The storyline is suitably dark and distant, the characters are diverse and shallow, the effects are more than effective and the action is tense at times. Unfortunately there are contriving circumstances that derail a promising movie. While the characters are diverse, they are also too familiar - seen a million times before in films like "Species" and the "Alien" series. There is the impetuous rookie, the coloured smartalec, the loose cannon, the strong-minded woman, the die-for-his-ship Captain, the science guru and the jack of all trades technician. Their familiarity lends a 'seen it all before' veil to the action.
While the film starts very well, it starts to peter out about half-way through. This isn't down to a lack of endeavour from the cast who all turn in impressive performances but is rather due to the lack of identity of a 'bad guy'. The ship displays evil tendencies but there is really no physical entity visible to direct your loathing at and soon you are fairly bored.
It's not a dead loss by any means but I would think either of the first two Alien movies would be worth a watch again rather than this. After the useless "Shopping", director Paul Anderson will have to prove himself to me. Perhaps his forthcoming release, "Soldier", will make the grade.
Well, it is pretty scary and interesting so that is a positive thing that makes you forget about the silly script.
A very suspenseful, dark & haunting supernatural/sci-fi flick that delivers a good amount of gruesome scenes with few glimpses of creepy & gory images.Hopefully one day a uncut version comes out on dvd with all the gory stuff that got edited.Paul Anderson rely on CGI effects on his films that at times doesn't work for me but Event Horizon is his best film in my opinion that delivers great effects & few others elements to make this a intense joyride.![]()
Great Scifi-Horror, the suspense and gore were mixed just the way I like it. Although I found the surviving characters to be boring, and I really hoped I would see more of the other dimension as the images were amazing. Well a good watch nevertheless.

The original trailer for this movie that I saw on tv, about a decade ago, didn't do it justice. I don't remember if the trailer posted, on this movies page, is that same trailer, but this movie is much better than the trailer let on.
A very good movie, that does have some predictable and SAD acting near the end, unfortunately. But all in all, thankfully, it doesn't take away all that much from the film.
