Plot:
One of the most IDIOTIC movies I've ever seen. The only reason I saw it is because of Nick Frost's impression of the monkey in Shaun of the Dead. I'd rather watch Nick Frost impersonate an orangutan for 90 minutes than endure this crap for redneck retard rendevous.
it's a pretty funny movie.
"there are more people dying to buy widow bikes than dying by snake bikes every year."
Maybe not Clint's finest hour creatively but I bet this is one of his most popular movies. I have seen it many times and still love it.
Clint's first monkey movie that made everyone wonder if he'll end up like that last guy that made monkey movies. A script that seems hand picked for Burt Reynolds (and it was written with him in mind AND ended up featuring one of the rapist hillbillies from Deliverance!) that focuses on country music and promiscuous sex with multiple partners. If you love movies like Stroker Ace then this is your Citizen Kane. If you aren't a big fan of films with Mel Tillis then you will find this an OK flick where Clint got tired of shooting people in all his movies and decided to beat them to death with his bare hands for fun and profit.
I really like this movie:) even if I was only 4 when it was released...oh well...but I still like it:)
Macho monkey business (okay, orangutan business!) From the film tradition that thinks hitting people and destroying property is funny. Tom and Jerry for grown ups.
This is one weird movie. For some reason this movie actually works, I found it entertaining. The ending was better then I expected it to be. There is certainly more here then just Clint Eastwood with an orangutan.
Synopsis: Clint Eastwood's 1978 comedy introduces Filo Beddoe, a truck driver and mechanic whose daily life is an absurd grind. He's constantly coming up short on money, love, and anything else to help him get through the day, while also saddled with a loony m...
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis, Beverly D'Angelo, John Quade, Bill McKinney, Hank Worden, Ruth Gordon
Directed by: James Fargo
Beer drinking; ass kicking good time w/ a country/western mentality. Clint will punch your rednecked lights the fuck out.
I watched this alot when i was younger, and then i got it on video and watched it more. And they repeated this on TV and i watched it even more. I just love this film, it is one of my favourites
A fun film overall - nothing too serious going on here and Ruth Gordon is hi-larious. In a year where most big films grossed around $40 million, this ape of a tale went past the $80 million mark--not bad for film about a fist-fighter and his orang-utan buddy, Clyde. A sneak peak into the past when the San Fernando Valley (my neighborhood) didn't seem such a bad place to live.
You can tell this movie was made in the seventies not only because of the clothes, hair styles etc, but because of the things they get away with that they never would today. Many times the main cast refer to women as "chicks." Pranks are played on women who turn them down in bars (things that would definitely end in a law suit these days - like putting false teeth in a woman's soup).
The movie really has four main cast members: Philo Beddoe (Eastwood), a truck driver by day and bare knuckle fighter by night, his brother Orville (Lewis), his love interest Lynn Halsey-Taylor (Locke), but the one who steals the show is Clyde (an Orangutan called Manis)
The movie follows Philo as he races across the country, with Orville and Clyde in tow, to find Lynn Halsey-Taylor who he believes is in trouble with her abusive boyfriend.
Along the way to make money, Philo takes part in several fights to earn money and they meet up with Echo (D'Angelo), who joins them on their trip.
This movie is great fun, and one everyone should see at least once. Or in my case, ten or twenty times due to ITV's way of re-running movies at least two times a year.
A great comedy about the odd life of a truck driver by day and bare knuckle fighter by night. Has some very funny moments.
Amazing performance by Sally Field. I was very impressed by this movie that is based on a true story.
These movies made me laugh. Clint Eastwood in a white tee shirt + an annoying monkey = a silly movie.
This movie cracked me up and so did your review. You really should write for a National. You kill me... "You can go to hell..." Indeed...HEEEE
A movie that has all the pop and grandeur you want! The Orangutan Clyde makes his debut and this film comes off as totally different from Eastwood prior movies. Humerus, comical, funny, but with a good plot and a whole lot of fun!
A great drama-romance film. Clint Eastwood stars as Philo Bedoe, a brawler who meets a country star and falls in love with her. Philo's best friend is Clyde, a orangutan. A great film that has some good humor in it, too. Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis and Ruth Gordon star in this classic movie.
Clint turns in to comedy..with blended results.. Often scorned by swedish critics, and I can't blame them! But there is some charm in all it's awfulness..hehe, and who can resist Clyde?! :)
